The monument looks great!! Although, what has me really interested is that last picture! That staircase is incredibly intriguing...

More shots of the staircase on the previous page - there is a subway tunnel running along one end of the table, which links up with a storm drain section halfway down one of the sides. I've got plans to add a couple more sections which will eventually lead to a White House Command Bunker but that will have to wait until after Salute.....

Yup, it's the Icarus from the original film....available from Skyhook Models.

How is the painting of the armies going? and is this for this years frothers mega game at salute?
Figures are coming along slowly - priority at the moment is to finish the board, although I expect i will be painting figures the night before....

It is one of FIVE Frothers games at Salute year....

Sound great! There's something about the way that photo was taken that I really like :) Can't wait to see more!

This is looking really good Akky.  Looks like you've captured key aesthetics from all of the original films.  Will there be a psychic cult living in the subway tunnels worshipping a bomb?   ;)
This is my boomstick!

This is just looking more and more fantastic all the time. I overuse the word 'awesome', so I'm trying to think of another way to describe it, and epic seems quite fitting. It's gone beyond 'some terrain' - describing it such terms would be like calling the Atlantic Ocean 'some water', correct in so far as it goes but no where near to communicating the scope of the thing.

Welcome back from where ever you were Red Orc :)

Cheers mate!

cheers all!

funnily enough, that is the plan  :D

I've got three more raised sections that link up with the subway tunnel.  I've stopped working on these for now, to ensure that the main board is finished in time for Salute.  The three extra boards will be in the direction of where the White House would have stood 2,000 years before.  The plan is for a hidden entrance via the subway that leads into a Command Bunker - next to the bunker would be a single rocket in a silo.....another version of the Doomsday Device from the film "Beneath the Planet of the Apes".

I've already got the rocket made, and have some monk figures for the mutants, but like I said the priority is to finish the rest first so I've got a viable table for Salute.  Unfortunately I've got minimal time to work on it, having been away four nights this week, and three nights last week for work, but I'm confident it will be ready in time.

I'm dying to see this at salute bud!

Likewise i'm looking forward to seeing your boards for Crooked Dice up close (and any tips I can get from you)  :D

Another brief update, as I managed to get the Rust, the Dust, and a basic highlight done on the base boards this weekend.

Metal diecast bus, plus some Fenris railings in the background. reminds me i need to paint the one remaining headlamp!

Need to blend in some of the dusty patches still, but some of it will be covered up when i get to the foliage stage.....

Can see the remains of the girders that would have held up the glass roof.  "Abe" is going to get the ivy treatment.

The subway station entrance (ive taken the liberty of moving the smithsonian entrance closer to the Washington Monument in the cause of gameplay) - still needs some more work on it.

The end of the platform, with the first carriage of the subway train showing (i've got 4 but might only use 3 as i'd originally allowed for an extra board on the end).  Still a WIP, part of the roof has collapsed in, as roots from the tree that is in the ticket office on the surface have poked through (obviously haven't added the roots just yet).  There will be lighting in the tunnel....

These thin strips mark the lefthand edge of the table as you look down the board from the Lincoln Memorial - the road with the rusty busses is what is left of Constitution Avenue.  I've supplemented some resin pieces from Slug Industries with some foam board, wood, lots of gravel, plus some more Fenris railings and a couple of Fenris fire hydrants.

Where is the subway carriage from?

The train is an o gauge MTH model - not cheap, as it's meant for a working railway...I've got 4 carriages, they do crop up on eBay, but you need to be patient unless you want to pay a small fortune for one.

Sizewise it is perfect for 28mm figures - each carriage is 13 1/2" long.

That is coming on, looking forward to seeing them.

Thanks Phil - as you can see I'm putting your resin ruined corners to good use!

Oh yes, and like the way you're supplementing them with foam board as they're the same thickness. Got any pictures of McFonz's monkey suit yet? ;)
