St. Mary's Caye or "The Merry Caye"
« on: September 04, 2012, 04:46:23 PM »
I've been doing a little remodeling of the Islands for the Giant Pirate game at Recruits in two weeks. Not finished but well on it's way is the pirate safe harbor on St. Mary's Caye.

Great looking table - feels just right for a pirate game.

Really like the use of the mast and rigging above the wooden pier.  Great detail work.  Richard

Darn, Wingnut, I'm having "follower" envy!   lol

Seriously, beautiful work.  Especially like photo 9 where the battery looks like it is on the deck of a 'skeleton' ship buried in the ground.  Shouldn't the other barricade be built of skulls?  Kind of looks like it.

And now, if I may, and I do so with considerable trepidation because your work is so extraordinary, if I might make one slight criticism.  The tops of your palm trees seem a bit too 'dusty' for me; to accumulate that much dust would take years and if there is that little wind in the region there isn't going to be much sailing at all.  I know you are probably just trying to dull some plastic shene but I think a top spray of some green and maybe a light dusting of yellow might make them look better.  I do realize you might not be able to go back to fix this for what is already done because of overspray hazards on other items.

Please don't let that minor quibble distract from the fine work you've done.  Wish I could show to play but I've shot my wad for a while for conventions - especially distant ones.

Beautiful table!

Looks like a great holiday destination.....not when the pirates are around of course.

It is nice to see the Em4 buildings in yet another setting, they are so versatile.
Probably one of the best purchases that I have made.

15's away,
Your spot on about the dust. This is currently taking on a lot of grime in the workshop, not to mention the trees also get a dull coat before each game of flat green paint. Your spotting the plastic beneath last years coat that has rubbed off in transport. that'll be cleaned up before the big show. There are a lot of little bits still  not finished that are mostly repair work. Speaking of Shows how did the labor Day game go? Pictures?

@ all,
Thank you for taking the time to look over my site. A great deal of inspiration and encouragement comes from this site and it's talented members. With our local convention coming up I hope to have more for you to enjoy soon.

Wingnut,

Labor Day game went good - still need to tinker with the rules to get them where I want them.  We had over 32 sign-ups and got up to 28 players though dwindled down as we the day passed.  Will have pictures on the blog soon but I'm still in the rest and recovery stage.  Took four hours to set the game up Saturday night, was down prepping for two hours before game which ran seven and a half hours and then, after a break, took three hours to break down.  Plus it had to be loaded and unloaded on each end of the hundred mile drive between home and convention.  Yes, I had help - much appreciated help - but you know how it goes; one man does the majority of the work.

Man, your stuff is really impressive.  Someday will rework some bits and pieces to improve my towns - and your work will be a powerful inspiration in that process.  But I've already moved on to the next big game - 20' x 25' 15 mm wild west game for September 2014 (not an error, two years out, it will take that long to get ready).  Not to worry, though, the pirates will see the light of day from time between now and then.
