McFonz's project I: Gritty sci fi (Salute game pics page 9)
« on: September 20, 2012, 08:48:18 PM »
In an attempt to try and bottle up some of the influence and positive mental attitude that Akky has been drumming into me with recently what with all of his projects - I have taken it upon myself to actually try and finish one for once.

I have bits and bobs already assembled but this is the point of no return - the start of assembling it all together.

The first part is a raised highway. Inspiration taken from the computer games Rage and Fallout 3/New Vegas as well as movies. I'm not sure what you guys like in terms of number of photo's but my blog has more if needed. I'll give you a couple of shots of what I have done so far with another couple of the details.

The highway project so far.

Support in construction.

Current piece to add to the first - its going to be a ruined/collapsed end.

Close up of the 'tongue and groove' system I have built into the sections to help them connect in a way that also supports weight.

And lastly, a couple of chaps I am currently working on paint wise:

I didn't realise that was where the miniature was from, just picked him up at a show as a loose miniature.

To be honest there is nothing much 'elf' about him other than perhaps his build but even then that is at a stretch. I will have to go and have a look at their stuff now.

I'm still debating whether to make him the 'chief' or just one hard nut to crack. Got another 11 on the way . . . . .

Love the paintjobs! the assembly system for the overpass is also cool, I love figuring out stuff like this myself so I guess you felt a little proud when you got those to work :)

Yea, many of the Mega Miniatures figures are not very elf like or with a quick file, knife or putty could be changed in a second. I liked many of the figures, some are flat out ugly, this guy is the pick of the litter...

Looking forward to seeing more.

I was indeed pleased that it works. I won't be entirely happy though until the pieces start to approach completion and really look the part.

A very small update. This shot is from last night.

Today (after me Sunday league footy team won 7-4) I have been adding sides onto the long straight section and then adding a pollyfilla-pva thin texture layer to parts of the T-junction and ruined section.

At the moment I am only applying this to the road surface and the supports. The sides will be detailed to look like strengthened girders with the occaisional advertising hoarding in places.

Might need some help with what to put on the hoardings.

Now to paint more Ratskins whilst the first bit dries.

Progress on the road.

PVA dabbed rivets. Some of them have spodged a bit but by the time I have done with it I'm sure they wont be that obvious. Tedious but worth it in the long run.

Details of the support and the rung ladder. The ladder now goes all of the way up the support to the hatch. Deliberating on a half-way level capable of holding a couple of models.

More photo's tomorrow hopefully.

I like it! Yea, I would put a ledge about halfway to give more places for models to slip into and use.

Or reset the staples, spaced to accomodate your standard figure base.

Nice work!

That is an idea...but they would need to be spaced out too much in a visual appeal...I saw on the WW2 board a board that they US commandos had to scale a cliff, they used pins to hold the figures in place.

Looking good, but the rivets don't look much fun to do.

I've started using these:

Those rivets are very cool! I'll have to pick some up.

And this project is looking VERY amazing. I can't wait to see how it progresses.

and a lot easier to use than you might think, I've even used single rivets to fill gaps and joins.
