Need a painting tutorial for weathering!

Mason, did you do a total repaint to the green one?

No repaint, it was blue and silver when I bought it.
In fact, other than a little drybrushing of 'mud', there is no real painting involved.
I used a product made by Modelmates to weather all of them.

I have one left, so I will do a little tutorial showing the various stages when I do it.

I wonder about weathering them too much, though...other than maybe some mud in the wheel wells.  I've, unfortunately, had government cars parked at my home and I can testify that they were spotless.

May have to check out this modelmates stuff if it is in the US...I have inks and washes (GW) and been toying with the GW (rough texture paints) for basing...thought the mud stuff would be good to add some gummed up mud around the tires and fender since roads was not great back then.

Unless you weather them, they will look exactly what they are: Die-cast toys!

It is a must, as far as I am concerned...

We tease our General Services to wash their cars here....so not all government cars are spotless...hell some of ours is piles of junk with an engine...the body just happens to look ok.  lol

I collect older and antique firearms (an advantage of living in the US) and some of them are quite rare. Well, there was a murder or some such act of villainy in California 12 years ago, when I was living there in the state, about 20 miles or so from where I lived, done with a pistol that has a not-common caliber. Add to that the fact that the barrel that the murder weapon had was a custom barrel, only perhaps 4000 of which were ever made. So, the fact that I had that pistol, and the barrel, AND that I lived near the area put me on a very short list. The irony is that I had never installed the barrel as doing so would have potentially damaged the receiver, thereby making the gun far less valuable.

So, one day, two black Chevrolet Impalas show up at my house. Immaculate. Two men (one white, one black) wearing identical sunglasses and with an utterly humorless expression show up at the house. They ask about my gun, I tell them I don't know a bloody thing about the situation, and hand over my gun and the barrel. I explain I never installed it, and that if their crime lab can do so without actually damaging my gun, I'd be appreciative if they'd leave the new barrel in.

Again, humorless bastards.

A year later, I get my gun back. They didn't even clean it after test firing. :(

Got to love the Feds!

I work for the State, so things are different...but well we have a gov that looks like Voldermort (From Harry Potter) or Skeletor from He-man.

Do you glue the wheels in place to keep them from rolling around or do you not mess with them?

I dont bother.
Playing on a flat table should mean they do not move too much.
Some people do glue them, or base them, but I prefer a vehicle without a base so it blends in better with the tabletop.

I think PVA glue will be the answer...I was curious, we had a few get bumped by dice and such last night. I thought this may happen...

Post something on how you weather...I also bought some of that GW gummy paint that looks like mud to add to the lower edges and fenders...curious how you wash yours to look dirty..

Greetings!

Nice collection, Stix!

I've recently discovered that collecting vehicle models for Call of Cthulhu/Strange Aeons games may turn into a hobby by itself!

Two recent acquisitions of mine: a lovely Ford Model T 1915 (1960's Corgi Toys) and the 1926 Hispano-suiza limousine from the James Bond Car Collection, both in 1:43 scale (pictures from elsewhere in the net).

As I am planning a CoC RPG game inspired by the movie The Great Race (1965), these models will be of great use!

 :)

Has anyone found stuff like this in Canada? I have been looking for a while and can't find suitable vehicles to put on my game tables.

Try US Ebay, that is where I got my goodies...
