I guess I can add some plastic to the sea of resin.  These would be Innsmouth specific.  I have some of these.  Here are some specific buildings that I like:

Map of Dunwich

Tell me that's not cool!

Well, I can tell you that this bloke apparently came up with the map by himself and admits it's his first RPG town map ever. He points out that "my Dunwich lacked the decrepit, backwoods New England vibe of Lovecraft's squalid little hamlet. Instead, it was more West Coast - probably due to it being as heavily influenced by the movie "Fright Night" as much as it was by Lovecraft".

So I don't belittle the effort but I wouldn't call it very authoritative source either.

Then again, he tells it was in the mid-80s. I think Chaosium's "Return to Dunwich" source book only came out in 1991 and the updated Dunwich book in 2002. (I may be wrong here as there are multiple printings and I didn't trace the original publishing dates that thoroughly.) Obviously the guys at Chaosium also had to make up plenty of stuff so theirs is just another speculative take on the subject. However, they sort of have a licence to define details... And in any case, they often do their homework reasonably well.

For what it's worth, the village map from Chaosium's book looks like this:

It also comes with a large map of the whole area. There's a small-res preview on their site: http://catalog.chaosium.com/product_info.php?products_id=32

So pick your favourite cool. ;)

For something distantly related, there's a real Dunwich in Suffolk, UK. Strangely enough, it's a coastal town which slowly eroded and disappeared into the sea. :o

See the small thumbnail in the latter link to see how the coastline moved over centuries. It's not only people who go down under. You can take your town with you.

Based on what I've read and studied Hovels seems the way to go.  I'm going for a more rural look with less buildings.  I love the PMC buildings but They look too medieval to me.

PMC have several different types of buildings, including medieval, Middle Eastern, Dark Ages and a fairly new VBCW range.
If you look through them all, there are quite a few that are suitable, especially for rural areas.

No need to do that, Sir!
Just thought that I would mention it as people may not be aware of the variety in the range as their Medieval-type stuff has been around for so long that they may only be known for that range.

I think your buildings are damn good, too!
So good that I went and got me a plasticville-type building.
Now I just need to find the time to do something with it....

Hey oldben, let me ask you this: On all of your buildings, there's this sort of stippled texture on them. The original models don't have that...how did you get that....pitted...texture on there? It looks cracking!

I've only painted the buildings.  That's it.  Most of the plasticville has stucco, which is more characteristic to the 1950's/   I noticed Grimm drybrushed the stucco like you would brick and it looked pretty good.  The firehall, and the 5 and 10 are all stucco on the front and back.  Paint black, drybrush redbrick, than white mixed with redbrick.

The reason I asked is that if you look at the texture of yours, then the texture of the above, they don't seem to be the same. Obviously, I like yours better! ;)

The storefront is different, it's flat.  I gave it an old stone feel.  The sides and the back are textured because Plasticville used the same mold for other buildings.  They just swapped out the front.  The apartment, the post office, and a few of the other storefronts have the same back and sides. You have to be careful with plasticville because a lot of the models can look too similar.

These are old pictures but they give you the idea.  I used picture matting for the sidewalk.

Does anyone still have pictures of Grimm's warehouse and his pulp apartment?  The old site he used is down.  He started this all for me.
