Longbows.... I'm not against and one might well appear in phase 4. They don't lend themselves to use in sewers.
. I've got a bow myself and, if I was scavenging I think I'd prefer to pick up a crossbow.
The idea of discovering a compound bow in someone's attic or under a few pallets of spilled shoes in a sporting goods store works, but I'm not so sure about a traditional long bow or even a flat bow.
Are the right kinds of trees going to be around in this winter environment? A crossbow can be made from leaf springs from a car or other bendy stuff, just at one end you have something a guy could pull hard and cock himself, and at the other end you have stuff where a windlass is needed.
Finding that sweet spot for wood where you have something that will retain it's spring, enough spring to fire an arrow at velocities for tasks beyond killing rabbits, I think that would be very hard to find in a post apocalyptic world.
I do wish more 'regular' or even 'zombie survivor' miniatures were around with modern crossbows and compound bows, or even 'mad max' style crossbows made of table legs and car springs, but I just don't see the longbow as making a come-back...at least not until nature starts to make a come-back too. If you have a post apocalypse world where trees are growing up through the sidewalks and abandoned cars are covered in foliage, yea longbows might start to fit in then...but most post apocalypse settings aren't like that.
just my $0.02 of course, your mileage may vary
