Inspired by all those beautiful buildings we saw on this forum Johan and I  decided to build a Spanish town in 28mm.

Commercially available buildings are mostly rural in nature, but we wanted something more 'town-like' with a bank, several shops, town square complete with statue, and as centerpiece a Guardia Civil cuartel.

Which means those new fabulous Anglian Guardia Civil figures arrive just in time!

Phase 1 buildings are almost all in the pictures aside from a few specials like colummned or terraced houses which are still under construction.

Phase 2 will be a small harbour with warehouses, a jetty, cranes and more shops/stalls and that will complete the project. We aim to have it ready for Crisis in November.

All buildings are made of 4mm MDF board reinforced with wooden supports on the inside.
The smaller buildings fit into the larger ones making it easy to transport.
Roofs are mostly Wills OO scale pantiles, and the -removable- floors are
foam board.

Right now we're waiting for doors and windows from Grandt Line but it takes ages to get them...

Most of the buildings will be covered in plaster with some brickwork showing here and there.

Do you have professional equipment to cut the MDF?

I'm curious to see more WIP images in the future. Keep up your good work.

Hi Ralf,

A small bandsaw for cutting the MDF is essential if you want straight angles, but that's it.
The windows and door are easily 'cut' out with a chisel and a wooden mallet.

First batch now almost ready.

Some new ones here. First of all the church. Together with the Cuartel one of the focal points of the game.


A house with an (inside) terrace. Often seen in Spanish fishing villages.


No selfrespecting Spanish village without a least one columned house....
Still needs an inside wall and floor but rhese will be made in foamboard next weekend.



The big cornershop where the Carlist will set up one of their Hotchkiss HMGs




One of the guard towers for the Cuartel. Johan had the splendid idea to use half a foam Easter egg for the roofs.




The next one may shock sensitive viewers.
Word of advice. If you plan to bevel 20+ houses with a Dremel you better don't forget your dust mask. I'm still having sawdust for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

great stuff are you going to coat the buildings?

I use a filler/ PVA mix.

Hi Jules,

Yes, all the buildings will get a 'plaster' coating over some partial brickwork.
All the walls have been roughened a bit for a better key.

We'll probably use a Polyfilla/ PVA mix ourselves since even at 28mm scale the plasterwork still needs to be rather smooth.

Cracks and bulletholes will be added later but we don't want to overdo this damage since the town will probably later also be used for Napoleonic and Carlist Wars.
We might built one or two more heavily damaged houses especially for the SCW scenarios.
