Looking for 28mm-scale tanker truck and gyrocopter
« on: December 08, 2012, 07:29:16 PM »
As the title indicates, I'm looking for a 28mm-scale tanker truck and gyrocopter for some post-apoc, Mad Max gaming.

For the first, I'm wondering if the Badland Vehicles range would work? There's a nice Mack Rig and Tanker Trailer, but these are true 25mm scale (and say specifically that they are not suitable for the larger GW type 28mm figures). Nonetheless, it would be nice to see photos of these vehicles with some figures to see how badly they work together. Alternate suggestions would also be appreciated.

As for the gyrocopter, Daemonscape indicated they were going to work on one over a year ago, but as nothing has materialized yet, I'm looking elsewhere. Well aware that GW has two gyrocopters, but neither have the right aesthetic (and neither look they have a shot of flying). Any suggestions?

At 1/48 it might be a little big for true 28mm figures but there's an WWII german gyrocopter kit that might work:

Having suffered though making one of those, they're really fiddly and fragile - nice kit but too fragile for constant handling.

The Airfix James Bond gyrocopter kit may be another option, but it is to a larger scale than 1:48...

@Scurv: I'm pretty well limited to shopping online, there is very little in the way of local stores that would be useful for these efforts. I live in a city of 7,000 on an island in Canada's (sub)arctic, access is exclusively by air, and the nearest gaming store is ~2,000 km away. Do you know a source for these 28mm-compatible trucks?

@rwwin, starkadder: Duly noted about the German kit, it does look close to what I'm looking for, but it is disappointing to hear that is both fiddly to put together and not all that durable.

The GW kits would be a last resort, I really don't like them.

Corgi do a diecast 1/55 scale James bond gyrocopter ...

http://www.flyingmule.com/products/CG-TY95126

They also do a more detailed 1/50 ...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/CORGI-007-GYROCOPTER-1-50-/261101951526?pt=UK_ToysGames_DiecastVehicles_DiecastVehicles_JN&hash=item3ccae39a26

Thanks for that, and as I see this is your first post, welcome to the forum! The 1/50 version may work, if I can find one.

Hello
How are things up in Nunavut?  Probably a lot colder than here in Ontario.
New Ray make a large variety of 1/43 trucks, including tankers
And at a reasonable price too

I guess me walking down the street to the $2 shop and posting you one would be a source of them. Know all about living in the middle of nowhere though my nowhere was warmer than yours. In fact I have spent time in every bit of nowhere you see in those movies. I live just down the road from anarchie road from the first film. (yes its a real road)

Otherwise look in the toy car section of ebay and you will find em there. (with cheaper shipping too)

Gotta ask, what on earth are you and the other 6999 people doing on a frozen island in the middle of nowhere only accessable by plane? Is it secret government experiments? The hidden base of a criminal mastermind? A survivalist cult? A forward base of the moon Nazis?

Inquiring minds want to know.

As to the first, yes, that just might work.

As for the second - a number of the 7,000-odd people (and I do mean odd) that live here are native to the area (for the last thousand years or so). Iqaluit is the capital of the territory of Nunavut, and the center of government, which is how I wound up here. After getting laid off from my job working in gold exploration, I was able to land a job as a regulatory geologist in Iqaluit. Been here 2 1/2 years now, along with my wife and 1-year old daughter who was born here. So, not very exciting compared to secret government experiments, hidden criminal bases, survivalist cults or moon Nazis - hence, wargames!

I am happy to get you one just realise the postage will make it pretty expensive for what is a cheap mass produced chinese made toy truck.

here are some ebay ones

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Matchbox-Collectables-CCY10-M-Sunoco-Ford-Aeromax-Tanker-Tractor-Trailer-Truck-/190620609731?pt=AU_Toys_Hobbies_Diecast_Vehicles&hash=item2c61dfacc3 19cm long

If you do want me to get you one PM me.

Thanks, but I think I'll just see if I can find something next time I'm in southern Canada. I do appreciate the offer though.
