I have been following this thread with interest and have a question -anyone have ideas for alternate track? I could always use conventional rail, but I want something more "futuristic" while retaining a hard sci fi feel.

We are at the CAD stage of developing our own train model. Here is the test render of the engine.

It is early days but the idea is to have it as a monorail so that it will sit above the table and not be too intrusive.

We'll see how it goes... should have a test cut next week.

I'll post updates here  and on the FB site https://www.facebook.com/LaserCutCard

You could try modifying the old blue plastic battery operated Lego rails into monorails...?

The "razor train" of Half Life 2:
History viewed from the inside is always a dark, digestive mess, far different from the easily recognizable cow viewed from afar by historians.

There's a free PDF of a sci fi train on the infinity forums, its more floor plans but does also have some nice containers for some 3d terrain

you could look up snowpiercer, and of course the train job episode of firefly.
