Biggest Ever Walker - Construction Begins!
« on: 31 December 2012, 04:46:37 AM »
Hi, All!

I finally began construction of my new gigantic walker: Lord Smudgington Smythely-Smythe's Hydraulically Motorvated Sextupedal Land-Traversing Vacational Domicile...

I have started with the 'Core Room' which will be viewed from above at the centre of the finished model.

The final model will be about a metre long, and will serve as the gaming table itself for deck-type skirmishes and what-not.

I'm hoping to finish the walker by August for 'Call to Arms' here in Wellington, NZ. A lot of work still to do!

Rivet Count so far: 562!

For those of us in the solo gamer wildlands of Whakatane when is Call to Arms this year?

And to think I wasted a burned-out drill core for a dog gate axle...

Anyway, a nice start to be sure but it's a huge project so good luck 8)

I do like the idea of making the walker into the gaming board. Our Scottish Lead Adventuring friends did the same with a huge airship. I had a project like this in the back of my mind for a huge aeronef or aethership, but I'll probably never get the time or space to do it.

I'm looking forward to seeing how this project works out.

Will the madness never end?  :o

Actually, I've a plastic shelf unit I planned to make into a multi-level game table, with upper levels open in the center, balcony like. Idea was space ship interior, or buried facility for non-V SF, but nothing to stop one from cladding the legs as 'legs'.

Hmm....

I love you for using a drill core in this.

...

Just started drawing up what I might do to ape your project, and realized there MUST be a fortuitously open trap door on the 'belly' for a Luke-Skywalker-and-the-AT-AT-esque entrance!

FWIW, you can stop now on the rivets and still have more than I'll be doing...  ;)

Are you sure that's wise? I mean, I half jokingly suggested it on another thread, but can the islands stand that much awesomeness in one place.  lol

Ah, baggage restrictions will probably sort that out...

WOW! What a lot to respond to!

Stu - I don't know. I'm assuming it's August, as usual.

Froggy - Erm. Okay.

Everyone else - Thank you! I shall endeavour to keep you entertained and all that stuff. I just hope I have the model-making stamina to finish the thing!

More progress pics, etc. in a few days' time.

All the best!

Inspired madness.
Below is a link to my blog. It's the place where I write uninteresting things about little toy soldiers. I do this because I refuse to grow up and behave like an adult.
