Only went once or twice back in 2010 Nice bunch of blokes but they tended to game more large historical games and I ahve sold most of my stuff off these days.

I've only been twice, most recently in March to play some God of Battles. We also tend to play at someone's house. If you need GoB opponents now and then I'm sure something could be arranged :)

Well, I've had a chance to read through more of the rules. I like the way the camps and baggage trains work. The other habitats seem like they might get annoying after a while.

There is a hell of a lot of padding in the text! It claims to have two editors but they certainly didn't edit anything out!  I don't know why (except to pad out your page count) is it necessary to repeat every special rule for each troop listing it is used with.

Example: Shoot (x) - means the unit can fire missiles and when it rolls the dice to hit it needs "x" or better to hit. That is explained in the Shooting section and then in every single troop type that has missile weapons!

The way defense dice work from shooting is a little screwy. Unformed units get 1 defense die per figure, formed get 1/2 their number, presumably b/c being a denser target they are easier to hit. OK, on the surface that seems to work. but as the unit gets smaller due to casualties it's defense dice get fewer meaning it takes casualties quicker...that part is screwy and where the mechanism fails.

The concept of doing everything based on the leader model is another gimmick that falls short, IMO. For one thing, it is possible to be in what most players and rules would consider the frontal arc of a unit and still have that unit count as "Shieldless"!

It's a very pretty book but the closer one looks the bigger the cracks are getting.  :(

The formed unit suffers less attrition to their dice pools as they lose casualties in comparison to loose units. They're bigger (12-16 minis as opposed to the typical 8-10 for loose units), less vulnerable to Tests of Courage, and get extra dice from full command as opposed to a musician or standard bearer. They also mess about with the opposing armies tactics with the threat zone they protrude. Their big weakness is being attacked in the flank. Loose units hit hard and are powerful at full strength but attrit quickly.

The mechanic of measuring distance and line of sight from the leader model coupled with the streamlined movement rules were a bit of a revelation for us. In comparison to the fantasy game we were playing it was much faster and easier without losing anything. It takes a slight mental adjustment to get used to it but we got there after two or three games.

The good thin about habitats and weather is that they are optional, the whole game is somewhat modular in what you choose to play. It's one of things I do like about it.

We've only used the weather twice and never the habitat rules. There's things we plan on dropping in to give variety later on down the line.

For those close enough to Nottingham to be able to make it, next Saturday is a GoB gaming day at Foundry. Jake will be there to run people through demos if you haven't tried it yet and there'll be armies available for people to use.

How does one go about viewing and perhaps purchasing the Foundry miniatures pictured in the book.  I can't seem to find them on the Foundry website.

Some are showing up on ebay (example - the Giant Crab), but by no means all of them. Haven't seen any of the Sea Elves or Dark Elves yet. And only one pack of Thousand Tribes barbarians though the pics suggest there are others (conceivably some of which could be conversions.)

I know they are available but not on their ebay site yet, as the Face Book chaps have posted pictures of them so you can get them in store or drop them a line
