Warlord Games Ancient Germans
« on: February 13, 2013, 11:24:59 AM »
Some of them looking aren't bad. I think I could need a box of them, also to make some conversion work on my Foundry Germans. And these Fanatics are quite nice, too.

They certainly look a lot nicer than the 'old' ancient germans they did - might need to get some of these to add to the horde!

Is that a completely new plastic set, or did they just repackage the old germans (celts with metal bits) and add some metal command models?

The separate metal germans look good though!

From what I can tell from the pictures, it's the celt plastics + new metal additions + new command models. Re-worked versions of the old metal command models appear to have gone into the 'Germanic command' blister...

I think I have to watch them at the Tactica. Interesting, but not enough pics at Warlord Games...

Me too, also the new Caesarian Romans, hope they will be available there.

Tactica is the right place to check them out ;D
I have quite a few Foundry/Copplestone ancient germans and hope these will be the right additional recruitment.

If you need some motivation for these period visit Kalkriese close to Osnabrück where 9 a.d. is supposed to have happened, this will do the job nicely.

cheers Thomas

My first impression was 'Germans? - I get a more Celtic vibe from these'  lol

But where the Romans divided Gauls and Germans at the Rhine, the two ethnic grops were probably much more intermingled. Having Germans with 'Roman' helmets, that are actually just a Gallic design adopted by the Romans could be seen as a little too much of a shortcut in making a new set of minis, and I think that just retaining the boar standards and the Carnyx for the command group is a tad lazy, but, again, there is probably no evidence against Germans using those, too.

So, all in all, it's a matter of personal taste, the models are nicely sculpted and probably good value.
Ask at the LAF, and answer shall thy be given!

They clearly use the same old leg/torsos from the old celtic plastic box set. They look ok but again it seems a bit lazy.
