Monster Hunter International.

I'm sure many of you know about this already.

There is a series of books called Monster Hunter International by Larry Corriea.

I stumbled onto the first one through Audible, and have been listening to it while I drive.

It's a bit cheesy and cornball, but ultimately GREAT FUN.  Basically a B-movie novel.

It's a modern day setting, and the first novel is rife with Vampires, Werewolves and best of all OLD ONES.

The gaming potential seems fantastic.

I just looked him up and turns out he seems to be a bit of a gamer/painter as well.

Also, he has a series of novels concerning a magically enhanced Private Eye based in the 30's.  I've not tried those yet, but plan to.

I'm more interested in a modern Day Cthulhu setting anyhow, and this really helps fuel my imagination for gaming ideas.

Highly recommend!

There's also a movie called Jack Brooks Monster Slayer that seems to deal with the same subject matter. Some random guy has to fight a monster and in the end becomes a professional monster hunter travelling around the globe to remote places whereever he is needed. The movie is quite good and pretty funny. It even has Robert Englund!

I will have to check out Jack Brooks, looks like it would be a goofy good time.

I've read the first three novels in this series and loved them. I have the fourth book now, and it's up next on the "to read" list.   :)
