Bose-IV - What a mess… Nov 11th
« on: February 19, 2013, 08:43:07 PM »
Hi,

after taking part in the Rogue Trooper KS I thought I would start a general sci-fi terrain project (as if I wouldn't have enough projects) and it will be a ruined urban themed, a part of a city that saw some heavy fighting and is still contested over by different sides.

Starting it small, here's couple of results from a test run this evening. The Foundry 2000AD figures are there to show the scale. Two big Dragons teeth, other one in bad shape (must have been Nort experimental weapon of some sort that hit it) and the another in (still) pristine shape, will hack its corners, make few holes and dents on it later one. Wanted to have big ones, as Norts do have some big tanks :) And of course they give nice cover in skirmish level games etc.

Also weird thingy, maybe it will be placed inside of some building after I sand the rough edges or use it as some weird alien food growing pool thingy?

And then general rubble to be placed here and there.

Need to get good solid 2 x 2 foot mdf board(s) to start making proper terrain pieces, have an idea for a large corner piece. Pics of it hopefully later this or next week.

Cracking start! As an aside do you find the Foundry minis to be a bit on the huge side? I was a little shocked when I got mine.

Cheers Love_the_Lash, I do hope that I get more things made soonish. Today after work maybe two more Dragon teeth, then I need to get more casting material. I think six or seven of the big ones are more than enough for a terrain feature... I could do a stretch of bombed out highway with bunch of crumbling tank traps blocking the lanes...

Yes, those Foundry minis are bit on the huge side indeed, especially compared with Citadels Rogue Trooper range which is more on the 25mm side of things. Hopefully the Foundry ones will blend in somewhat with the upcoming RT minis... if not, I can still use them for general sci-fi action.

Here's yet more pic of the tank trap, pictured with Secret Weapon Miniatures 6x6 (still a PIP, thus black&white photo).

Looks like a good start.  I also started a big city terrain project, still have a long ways to go.  Please keep us posted on your progress as well as any tips.  I'm still a novice with terrain.

BTW, I dig that wheeled vehicle.  Looks like something a quick-reaction-force element on a futuristic FOB would have to respond to guerilla fighters or something.

Cheers chaps.

Went shopping after work, got myself 5 kg of Artestone, should last for a while now :D

Had to visit also my FLGS, went to buy WH Legends of the Old West rulebook (they have those on sale!) and stumbled upon these:

Dust-Models' "Quonset Huts"

Pictured here with Foundry Nort trooper and Warlord Games Red Army soldier. As you can see, they are quite spot on sizewise for the latter, tallish Foundry trooper might be hitting his head inside the hut if close the sides :) Doors open, which is nice, no glue needed and one can put them in a row to have a longer hut if needed. All in all you get six of the huts for RPP of 20€. Quite good deal in my mind. Of course they are quite low-tech for sci-fi environment but I can use these in my AVBCW project, for Pulp, WW2 etc. Will paint them in "military green" and maybe I use two of them and add few odd bits to them to sci-fi up them a little.

Now, to cast few Dragon teeth more.

Cheers!

Great stuff, Pocoloco, going to be watching what you come up with.

Good spot with those Quonset huts, never seen those before, they seem good value.
May have to have a look for some of those...

Cheers Mason, lets hope I manage to get myself those mdf boards quickly enough, otherwise I need to work on smaller things as long as I don't have those boards to make bigger terrain features.

So while the next two Dragon teeth are settling, here's Johnny Alpha securing (still wip, needs rivets and some sort of control panel perhaps) a oil/gas line hub.

Thank you majorsmith, so far so good :)

Here's final pic for tonight, posterboy J.Alpha and the "six sisters" aka tank traps. I will use these six to block one highway or place them parallel to said highway section. Next step on these is to damage five of them in similar fashion as the one already is. Then put some paint on them.

Selling LOTOW books?  That's odd...you should buy some up and ebay them.  They're out of print for good right?

All of the LOTOW books and many other WH books on discount as well. I am happy to get the LOTOW books for myself, besided I only buy stuff from ebay, haven't ever sold there anything.

Too bad one has to be at work, I would love to be working on Bose-4 terrain :)
