"Wooden" packing crates (28mm)
« on: 28 February 2013, 09:16:51 AM »
Hi all

So for my first post I thought I would share what I am working on at the moment... some packing crates and pallets.

Let's face it: whether you need to ship recalcitrant animals off to Madagascar, move "tractor parts" through a sanctions cordon or even just defend your mission station against cheeky natives who for some reason don't want you as their colonial master, packing crates are useful.

I am a big fan of "lots of little pieces of cover" rather than huge terrain pieces so I have been wanting to make these for ages but never had the time.

I put these together this morning... they are not painted so you can see the spotches of superglue everywhere. I'll probably be able to paint them on the weekend.

They're made from 1mm thick card and the lids don't have to be glued down (although I will probably end up gluing them down anyway).

The different types with a model for scale

The medium sized one

The pallet (a little fiddly to build but worth it)

The small square one

The large one with the crossed reinforcing

"Wait until you see the whites of their eyes!"

Cheers
Neal

Thanks for the kind words guys. And let me tell you - you will be *amazed* at how the wife looks at this "silly playing with metal dolls" hobby once it pays for itself :)
