Fantastic painting going on here, you're really livening up those anvil dwarves.
The dwarves in Tolkiens universe are not altogether good, not even Thorin and company. They bear many traits that are frowned upon by most people, like greed and jealousy. Besides, they are quick to anger and never forgets a wrong done...just think of Mim from the Children of Hurin, who hates elves so much that be betrays all of Turins company just to spite the one elven ranger.

There is a precedent for them within Middle Earth (however fleeting the mentions maybe) and personally I love how MOTN has taken this and given them a "movie" look as they don't look out of place at all with the rest of the LOTR range.

You can keep up to date with the Fallen Dwarves though MOTN's blog as there are new units on the way:

What I said is that the main theme is that they are not prone to be enthralled. They surely are right little shits from many other perspectives.

By all means, it is certainly a thread to explore and profit from in a wargaming and derrived storytelling perspective. I like your fallen dwarves.

Here's a quick update as the batteries on the camera were running out.
First up is the command group painted up and awaiting a wash, secondly is a standard Fallen Dwarf who has had a wash (they are all at this stage now):

C&C welcome as always

Love the mood that is created with this painting.

Another day of painting so another update, the first unit is completed bar needing a varnish and some flock on the bases but all the painting is done:

And here's my attempt at some 'arty' photography, not sure if it worked all to well but let me know what you think:

Finally here are a couple of scale shots, as you can see the Fallen Dwarves are in perfect scale (and boy that Black Numenorean is a big chap):

C&C welcome as always  :sauron:

Wasn't Mim from a slightly different race called 'Petty Dwarves' or something? and the last of his kind?

Still those figs look fantastic and a really good match with the GW stuff, and I think it is pretty believable that Sauron corrupted a few Dwarves, he had a few rings to tempt them with...

Giger - very beautiful, the arty photography works too.

joe5mc - this is why I love this forum, I've been sent down another rabbit hole:

Love this thread  :D

I have a lot of (sadly, unpainted) Easterlings and this makes me want to paint them.

Those anvil dwarves fit in perfectly with a Tolkien setting... having played a lot of Lord of the Rings Online, which has a strong storyline for the 'Dourhand' dwarves, this seem like a great fit.

Thanks chaps,

Another week (or so) has passed and another command unit has been completed so I'm now on to standard units which will hopefully paint up a bit quicker (I had to re-paint the flame on the standard bearer as I wasn't happy with how it looked the first time round which ate up a chunk of time).

Comments and criticism welcome.

Even though I am not 100% sure about the 'idea' of fallen Dwarves in LotR, these certainly fit the Jackson-style Morrr-dorrr imagery that already exists very well.
Nicely painted too.
