P.s. is that now normal practice at huge wargames shows to use gorgeous, well endowed young girls to try and sell wargames magazines? It took me a while to realise what they were selling!!!......and eyes down to the magazine! ;)

 :o :o :o

You mean there were wargames magazines?

Damn, those look awesome. Thanks for posting the photos, one of these years I must get back to Salute.

There's a swastika on the roof of one vehicle about midway thru the photos, though. Might want to photoshop that out of existence.

At the biggest wargames showcase in the world, for crissakes...  ::)
Maybe cause it isn't "the biggest wargames showcase in the world" and they were using their times to get ready for that one. :-)

Isn't it?
5,000 gamers through the doors at a one day event. Is there a bigger concentration of wargaming than this at some other event?

Great photos....

Having spent the last three years queing with Q Busters we decided to opt for the late start - arrived at 11.30am - no queue - plus we got a lie in.

I'd like to echo Captain Bloods point about the 'subbuteo gaming boards' - the games on display should be aspirational - a chance to see what could be done in the flesh

no comments about magazine sellers as I didn't see any  :-[

Id be interested to know how many folks actually walked through the doors - if it is 5000 thats close on £50,000 in gate receipts alone. I understand from one of the stands that it was £480 to rent for a 12ft bay. If I get bored this afternoon I might try to work out what the traders paid in total and what sort of profit they turned out.  ;)

Anybody have a guess on what got sold on the b&b - I assume the organisers got 10%??

Finally I will call Excel and find out how much the hall costs to hire.....

I spoke to  the Warlords treasurer and he said the hall cost £42,000 to rent - the tables were £22,000 on top from a Northern company..... kind of puts it all into touch!

Nice pics by the way - I obviously missed some games myself! My blog pics included a load of social Frothers pics - quite tame as I left early both evening.....next year there must be a LAF meet up at some point....although there probably was and my autistic tendencies missed everything as usual  :'(

Historicon has the mantle of being the "Mother of all Wargaming Conventions."

But according to this article concerning 2012:

http://www.wargamer.com/article/3230/event-coverage-historicon-2012

Quote
The Fredericksburg Exposition and Convention Center, literally a stone’s throw off I-95, provided the roof over the heads of some 2700 to 2800 of the faithful, making the annual pilgrimage to miniature wargaming’s “Mecca”.

Have no idea if there are any bigger.

Dunno, but it seems only fair that from now on every convention should have them   ;D

Not sure how H-Con got that mantle. I wouldn't agree to it. And i haven't missed a H-Con in the 20+ years i have been going to them.
Has Origins or GenCon shrunk in recent years?

My mistake. I should have said the biggest MINIATURES wargames showcase in the world.

I am sure GenCon and Origins in the States get a lot more than 5000 attendees - but then they are spread over two or more days, and are also general gaming events, not miniatures wargaming events.
I've never been to either, but I believe they are conventions for role playing games, boardgames, collectible card games, LARP games, strategy games and so on, rather than specifically miniatures wargaming, painting and modelling?

;)
