Tales of Shedwood - Siege Weapons 14th Feb
« on: May 14, 2013, 09:29:43 PM »
hi guys with my Pirate builds coming to a near end...just looking forward to the games in the coming weeks I am turning my attention to the next genre...

Given that I have the woodlands, the farms and the buildings I thought a foray into 13th century England was in order. All I need are the figures...  ;D and a castle...which by the way is on the way :D

Can somebody recommend the 28mm manufacturers that best represent this period?

I am thinking that I'll need around thirty outlaws, sixty or so men at arms and a few knights plus assorted peasants, monks etc

If I start ordering up these now I can have a suitable lead pile stocked up for the late summer..

I was going to call this project 'the tales of shed wood forest'

Eric

Cheers guys :D

In no particular order our current Robin Hood project comprises:

Robin Hood, little John and a Friar Tuck: GW OOP Bertrand the Brigand. Based on the Errol Flynn look. Available on Evil Bay.
Alternative Friar Tuck and Marian sculpted by Maork Cooplestone available from Trent Miniatures via North Star.
Recent BBC TV series Robin, Marian and the Sheriff also available from North Star under the title Legends of Robin Hood.

Merry Men: GW Squires, now OOP available on Evil bay. Alternatives archers from Crusader Miniatures or Black Tree Design.

Peasants: Foundry and Front Rank, Gripping Beast and Black Tree Design

Sheriffs men and various knights: Crusader Miniatures, Black Tree Design, Curteys, Gripping Beast.

Monks: Conquest games, Black Tree Design Foundry and Gripping Beast.

King Richard Salute giveaway figure and Mounted Version available from Trent Miniatures via North Star.

Most of the above come from the HYW and late crusades ranges. you will see most of the above at BLAM. :)

I can show you most of them when we next meet.

Dan's Robin Hood threat has lots of photos, great inspiration:

GW Bertrand the Brigand is available on Ebay now:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_odkw=warhammer+squires&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0&_nkw=warhammer+bertrand+the+brigand&_sacat=0

They also have some of the Bretonnian squires as well. (not cheap though) ::)

Fireforge Sergeants are plastic and available in both foot and mounted versions.

They could provide the Sheriff of Nottingham's soldiers at a maneagable price.

Hi Eric the Shed,

You could go and have a look at our 30mm range of Robin hood and merry men figures, which of course, include Normans and Anglo Saxons (Classic tab on the left). Not 28mm but hey, who's counting.

The early 100 Year War miniatures sculpted by the Perry Twins for Foundry look great for this and contain many civilian types to populate games and even a wicked tax collector and co :) but if you want an earlier feel the Crusade period miniatures produced by Perry Miniatures are superb too :) both have clergy/monks and civilians and you could mix and match these without too much hassle...after all Robin Hood is a powerful Medieval myth but there were plenty of real Outlaw and brigand gangs during the period :)

I've built a village. And I was so proud. YOU on the other hand have a fortified CITY! How must YOU feel? Bloody hell! Lovely, lovely work. Thanks for sharing.
