If the Painting Club eventually moves to Age of Big Fucking Battalions, then there is an obvious place to run this concept or something silimar to it.

Possibly, but I don't think everyone would be painting a big fucking battalion from the age of aforementioned  ;)

I know I won't  :D (I think...)

There are plenty of character and skirmish type figures from that age that would suit the 100 club very well.

Obviously it's down to the mods and Alex and I'll go with whatever but I think both are good ideas for separate reasons  :)

cheers

James

2nd

I'd prefer less rules for a change - painting an army is a large project, too many rules rule participants out....

Agreed! I'd suggest the minis have a theme they are following, so that victory over the long project becomes the clear goal. Other than that, rules off.

I would not participate. I don't like painting big units.
second that ... in a way anyway.

Especially for a competition I wouldn't like big units with lots of miniatures. Though it is clear, that "big units" can be painted differently than "single models" or even "small(er) units". It is not that I do never paint "big units" (hey, I played WHFB quite some time and still do sometimes ^^) ... but a competition? Nope. So, please no.

I wouldn't mind an "extra competition" but that surely is even more work for the mods. So ... in the end the best (imho) is to have a special round "big battallion", that way, everyone who wants to can do so, but others do not have to.

How would it be extra work for the mods when there is no competition or contest, and members post their own photos?  ???

I'd call it "The Lead Adventure Anti-Butterfly League", as the antidote to the dreaded butterfly syndrome we can suffer from. Pledge to finish a shitload (your own standards apply), show what you are working on at the beginning, post monthly painted updates, and show the finished lot. Done! Maybe a special badge if you finish? A crossed out butterfly? Keeps it from getting too serious. ;)

I don't think it will turn out to be a competition if it comes to fruition. I think it is wise not run competitions akin to the LPL often even if we pull in more volunteers to run it. Perhaps it could be run like a 'Army Painting Club'. Or perhaps just a thread, like that Box project the crazy Dane initiated.

we could simply start and decide along the way what kind of poll we offer for the participants in the end

how about that?

minimal rules, say 10 miniatures minimum is a unit or so, artillery with teams, vehicles - I don't know

We're currently doing a challenge similar to this over at the Oldhammer forums. One unit, interpreting the term "unit" loosely, in one month. I'm taking the opportunity to paint some old Citadel regiments of renown. First up, Harboth's Black Mountain Boys.

I was thinking along the same lines as LeadAsbestos. Post or describe what your intending to paint and post monthly updates.  Definitely not a contest requiring more work for the Mods.
Painted:  2025:539; 2024: 410; 2023: 37; 2022: 56

Okay guys, I think meanwhile it's quite clear that we shouldn't be making a big contest thing of it. I'm going to move the tread to Workbench now and the army painters are free to go on with painting of their bunches without rules and any formal restrictions. Who knows maybe it will become something big one day, then we still could think about other options.

I like the idea of a unit a month as a unit could be anything. For example I could think of 28mm Fallschirmjaeger, 15mm Japanese infantry company or Hordes Gatorman unit.

It's a good idea but perhaps the pledgers could post in the "What I painted in ..." Threads as these seem to be a bit thin at the moment.

That would mean no new section and keeps them all together?

Looking through the list of interested parties here I'm really very curious who will paint an army or even a unit in the end ...  8)
