ICM 1:48 Scale Sd.Kfz.222
« on: May 06, 2008, 08:59:24 PM »
Just completed the first "Build up" of a neat little 222 I picked up on Ebay.
I bought a 1:35 Panther by ICM to use as the basis for my "Weird War" super tank and was so impressed by it I had a look for other kits by them.
The 222 is a lovely kit, dead easy to assemble ( only 2 sprues) but with very good detail ( turret interior etc). I didn't need to do any sanding or filling to get it to go together ( which is always a bonus!!) It also comes with brass etched parts which I was pleasantly suprised with.

I'll post some pics when it's painted but here's a couple to show its scale with a 28mm mini.

It looks like it fits perfectly with 28mm models. I heard somewhere that 28mm tanks and vehicles are a slightly smaller scale to let them fit on the battelfield, is that true?

According to this website, 1:48 scale equals models of 37.5 mm, which is substantially larger than 28mm. Can you shed some light on that, that is, is 1:48 the perfect realistic scale for 28mm?

Thanks

I've just ordered my first 1:48 tank kit from ebay, tonight.

The comments I've read about miniature scales and model kits have said that 28mm works well with 1:48 because the miniatures, though technically a bit short, have the bulk of a larger scale model. Once you add in the height of a base too, they should work out okay.

Looking at that car of Pappa midnight's looks like 1:48 should work fine  :D

1:48 scale is considered O scale.  Many O gauge vehicles and buildings work very well with 28mm.  I think the Tamiya kits
look better with 28mm than some of the diecast vehicles listed as 1:48th scale.  Some of the 1:56 WW2 vehicles seems a little on the small side to me.

I can't wait to see this painted up Papa! :)

Pappa, I think you turned me on to those cheap, Chinese 1/48 scale (HiTek?) models of BTRs, APCs and such, to modify for near futuire, sci fi armor, a coupkle years ago.

You are the 1/48 scale armor man!   :)

Reminds me, I sent a TMP/Lead Adventurer a Pegases 1/48 V-2 rocket model as a gift for his Weird War II.  I need to find out how it built up.

Thanks for your post and "beta testing"  ;)
Now I can buy the kit in good conscience, too.

Shame you had to resurrect a thread from so long ago when Michi showcased one late last year and I've commented on them too. Great kits.

A little bit of a search wouldn't have hurt now would it? ;)
