I'm afraid my cynicism gland kicked in and predicted it'll be one of those where it starts out with some great mins, but you have to keep collecting to get the squad and the full subscription ends up costing you 5 times the cost of the plastic miniatures. That's assuming of course you don't have to collect every single faction at once as well!

From the Nova announcements, I'm excited for the Old World releases.
High elves will be my go too.

Agreed! I fell hard for a return to Bloodbowl for the Gnomes, and I will be getting the Chaos Dwarfs for sure.

I now have a bunch of teams themed around smaller folk! The Little Big Leagues 🤣

I went and looked and it is a saving across the subscription and you effectively get paints and tools and stuff free, plus a unique figure for each faction, but that is it, you're collecting 9 different factions/combat patrols across the life of it. So in two years we'll have people flogging off all the bits they decided they don't want on eBay.

Oh and there's a premium tier for extra models but couldn't be bothered working out if it was good value or not. ;D

I hate to admit you will be right. Still it would be nice to have the option. Or at least get the first mag where they hook you in with the low price and first complete models.

With the recent AOS partwork that was very much not the case - I've got a whole stormcast army ready to go including some large dragon riders, and I think even when the full squad/kit required multiple issues it was still at least 50% cheaper than the GW RRP. The recent dragon riding knights came as three issues (the third issue was just flying bases so you could skip that) at £9.99 an issue. The same kit from GW is £77.

The Hatchette offer itself https://warhammercombatpatrol.hachettepartworks.com/

Apparently I'm getting old, as I can't read any part of the site before it scrolls to the left :-X

I'll see if the first issue turns up in my local supermarkets, but they don't have a great track record with these things.

It's 4 issues a month, at £9.99 an issue, delivered once a month as a batch. With 90 issues planned, that's just shy of £900 in just under 2 years for the magazine. However, binders are extra...

I have to admit that it's almost tempting, even though there are only a few groups I'm interested in

So £900 would buy you , at GW prices...

The Goliath Rockgrinder, the armoured sentinel, the defkoptas, Ork buggy, maulerfiend, helbrute, ultimate starter set (includes most of the Tyranid/marine stuff) , wraithguard, wraithlord, 2 sets of eldar jetbikes (come in 3s but you get 6 in the part work) the hyrthkin pioneers, the Ork warboss,
Genestealer bikes, genestealer troops, 20 khorne bezerkers,
Lord on juggernaut, the jahkhals, chaos terminators , and one squad of cadian shock troops.

Everything else would be a saving.

Part of me thinks it's a cool idea but the painter in me would curl up and cry in the corner. But then my hobby time is limited so even a box of 10 minis seems like a big task to me now.

what does that leave?

Everything else. Plus paints and brushes.

The best way to make these things worth the money is to pick out the specific kits you want, then buy only those issues.

Combat patrols are £100 from GW so it would cost you £900 to buy all nine from them currently.

£720 if you bought them from a third party at 20% discount  lol

I don't play 40k except for Space Hulk, but I still love the fluff and have loved Tyranids since my teenage self got Advanced Space Crusade. My local town was in the trial area earlier this year so I bought the 1st and second issues of the partwork, that got me a Tyranid Prime and 3 leapers for £10, then I bought a sprue of 10 termagants from Ebay for around a tenner. Gave me a nice little brood to take on Space Marines using Fistful of lead Galactic Heroes. I'll probably still buy the odd issue if it has an appealing beastie I can add to the brood.
Waiter, my soup is giggling.
