Now, did 50% of parents come into the store with kids asking if they sold board games ...?
and I'm old enough to remember when they did...
Me too.

Try getting a single fig as a present for kid for under a tenner ( Euro ). Impossible.

Yeah, that is impossible. I don't think GW sell any single figs for that price, but some of them are only a couple of quid/euro more. But they won't be in the store. I really don't know why the bricks and mortar stores don't stock the cheaper end of their ranges.

I went into my local GW (Edinburgh) before Xmas trying to get a box of the Hive Scum (4 minis for 12 quid) and was told I'd have to order that online. So I went to the nearby hobby shop on Lothian Rd and got a box there.

I want to like these minis (Necromunda minor faction - a very religious noble house), as I love the ideas behind them. I don't just mean the fluff, but also the design - the mix of how GW think rich hive worlders look and how GW think religious lunatics look.

But something is really putting me off. The boots maybe? Again, I like the idea, I bet the design sketch looked great, but it hasn't come through in the sculpt.

I'm not very impresed by GW generally now, but I like these figs.

....  I was immediately engaged by a store guy who fired question after question at me despite me saying I just wanted to browse. ....

Such a far cry from how things used to be. Tis a shame as I would have quite liked to have a good look at the new LoTR box.

My experience from the early 2000's.

For me it has always been a dieroll whether you met decent store personnel at GW.

They are required to do that sort of BS by upper management who think it helps increase sales.

I think it works with some extroverts who like to be engaged and chatted up but every introvert who encounters it will want to run screaming from the store

I went into a WH today with my two kids and my wife. I was immediately engaged by a store guy who fired question after question at me despite me saying I just wanted to browse. I was polite but kept moving, trying to look around but gave up.
The last few years I have been largely left alone, other than the "hello, do you need anything" greeting. A mumbled "just looking for some paint" was enough to get left in peace.

However, when I was in just before Christmas, the bloke was asking people their names and pretty much following them around the store. I hoped he was just an overenthusiastic employee, but it sounds like the pendulum may be swinging back :( I will probably be in there on Friday, so fingers crossed he's not on.

Too flippin' true, I just hate been heckled in a shop (any), but as soon as you want to ask something, poof! they are nowhere to be seen  >:( >:( >:( lol

Aside from the, hopefully, upcoming High Elf releases for Warhammer, I am not really looking forward to any new releases from GW. Nor have I been for some time.

I know that we all critique the company and their releases but are any of us actually buying new minis from GW?

Sometimes… I have the Legions Imperialis set, and intend to get more. Straight up Age of Sigmar or 40k? Nope… GW killed my interest in Fantasy with the End Times or whatever they did.

40k, it’s been kind of dead for a while. I did an Orks army over Covid, which was nostalgic and fun, but I never even played it.

I generally like what they release. The Lord of the Rings game is my favorite game system, and I really like the current Necromunda as well (rules and releases).
I found Age of Sigmar more interesting than the old Fantasy game, but I like high fantasy settings. I quiet like the figures as well.
Interestingly enough 40K's setting and the game is the thing that leaves me cold now (except for Necromunda). I played with Imperial Guard from 4th till 6th edition, mostly because my friends played it as well. We didn't like the changes from 7th edition onward though and stopped playing. I still like the figures though (well most of them).

As for buying, I do buy a lot, but mostly because I work at an FLGS and have a nice employee discount. Their base prices are stupid though.

Most of the miniatures I buy are indeed GW. Except they're usually at least 20 years old (and metal) and are bought 2nd/3rd/xth-hand on a slew of auction sites...

Last new GW purchase was probably about a year ago, when I impulse bought their new Bloodbowl Gnome team (still to be started ::) ).

And shouldn't the company know that?

Excellent point. But considering that extrovertism is basically the social norm (as much as I resent that), and marketing types really love the aggressive approach (sell, sell, sell), it's almost inevitable that organisations like GW will push for this type of employee.

I once applied for a job as GW store manager (back in the early zeroes), had my first interview in Amsterdam, went through to the second round and was flown to Nottingham HQ for an entire day of interviews and tours, together with about 20 other applicants. In the end I did not make the cut, because I was not outgoing enough (or so I gathered). The guy ending up with the job was indeed  one of those jovial, loud and pushy types. Fair enough I guess; it's what they were explicitly looking for, but it does illustrate that it's a concious strategy...

I've never paid £25 for a single character mini, but I regularly, if infrequently, buy a box of minis. Kitbashing stuff is my favourite part of the hobby by a long way, and GW's current stuff is great for that.

I haven't collected a GW army to play with a GW ruleset since about 1993 though, and so have never shelled out the cash on any of their big warmachine/showpiece minis. That stuff has absolutely no appeal to me. Kitbashing small gangs/retinues for a loosely 40kish sci fi setting is where I'm at.

I think (apart from the freebies with the partwork mags) the last GW mini I can conciously say I bought was a Sentinel and the skull box as my local hardware store had bought some GW stuff during the pandemic and couldn't shift it, so it was on sale. So 4 years ago for that. I have a nighthaunt cavalry figure, but don't remember how I got that. otherwise it would be some Doomseekers back in the naughties...
