'The Brothers Kalashnikov' - A Metro 2033 AAR
« on: 30 September 2013, 10:01:23 PM »
Hi All,

A couple weeks ago I put on a post-apoc scenario for a couple gaming groups than I chum with. The scenario is built around a few lines in 'Metro 2033' where an old timer tells the hero, Artyom, about a Russian tank crew which survived the initial nuclear attacks and so decided to go AWOL and head into the interior. The crew ultimately sets up in an assumably 'safe' area of the country, digs in their tank, and begins establishing a village around it.

I found this to be really compelling and thought it would be a great foundation for a skirmish scenario. I used the new 'Chain of Command' rules from TooFatLardies, while adding a few extra rules mechanics for some 'After the Big One' flavour.

Here are a few shots from the game:

A group of old-timer Spetsnaz debussing from their APC (all of them with bad knees and marinated in vodka). Figures by Lead Adventure and BTR from Imprint.

'Zone Raiders' close assault settlers in entrenchments. Figures by Copplestone, GW and Pig Iron - entrenchments from Architects of War.

There was much fun and mayhem. If you're interested you can check out the full AAR (with lots of pics) on my blog:

Thanks, and have a great day!

Cheers,

Curt

Great report. I have always been a fan of that side story in Metro2033.

Great idea for a mini-campaign!  How do you like the Chain of Command rules?   :)

Thanks for the kind words, guys.

@DoctorPete: The 'Chain of Command' rules are very solid and well worth a try if you enjoy squad-level gaming. If you like 'Bolt Action' then you'll probably enjoy the greater detail in the command and control mechanism of CoC. I also like CoC's abstraction of the fog of war with their use of 'jump-off' points. With modification I could see it being used from WWI through to modern skirmishes. We've used it for Spanish Civil War and, here, with Post-Apoc. Funny enough, we still have to try it with the period it was intended, WWII!

That was a great report! Great idea, good writing and nice pics.

I love TFL rules but I'm not into WW2 so I wasn't going to buy these, but I see I could use them for moderns and near future.

Thanks for taking time out to give such loving attention to detail and pics in the AAR. Truly inspiring stuff and the story and pics tied together wonderfully.
