Summer grasses...
« on: 14 October 2013, 09:07:06 AM »
Summer grasses,
All that remain
of soldiers' dreams.

- Matsuo Bashō

Having recently purchased quite a number of Perry Samurai minis (thanks Gladio Humanitas) it's time to start yet another project  o_o And what better and sophisticated way to start it than with a nice haiku by Matsuo Bashō although Bashō is later period poet (by 50 years or so). Anyways, I got this nice book some 8 years ago from friend who studied in Japan:

Inspired by it and the Kurosawa's Ran movie I will be making few colour factions of the minis that I have now in my collection.

One faction/buntai, numbering 10 in total, will be blue (mainly pants etc as in the pic below):

Second faction will be classical red, numbering 18, as seen in the pic (armour in red):

Third samurai buntai, numbering 8, will mostly be black, white and grey with some colour splashes here and there:

Then there will be a bandit bundai, currently 10 members, few tough guys and more peasants, muted earthy colours:

Throw in few ninjas, ronin and monks and I think I will have a long-lasting project... once again.

I hope to get few blue bundai samurais painted during the weekend.

It's a really nice looking book :D Looking, since I can only wonder at the pictures, don't understand Japanese, maybe a kanji or two here and there :)

I hope to get some paint on enough minis to play a game of Ronin or two, maybe realistic to aim first for two bands at 100 points and see onwards from there. Maybe, and hopefully, purchase some Oshiro terrain pieces at some point ;)

Here are the boys in blue based, not primed. Knowing my limited painting skills, it will be few colours and washes *sigh* and they are done.

And to keep the level of this thread somewhat civilized, let's finish this post with yet another haiku from Bashō.

In the cicada's cry
No sign can foretell
How soon it must die.

- Bashō

Looking forward to this project unfolding (or is that folding together, like origami?).

Great artwork!  Anxious to see where you take this project.   :)
