The Dragon Gardens on Digaolong Island, 1937

Ensign Alex McAlister and the crew of the USS Barracuda wait in the moonlit jungle

listening in dread to the bizarre chanting coming from the other side of the Dragon Garden wall

while Popeye and some friends they met on the river approach the collapsed section.

Two Black Pants Pirates guard the moon gate

while only one guards the hole.

Not wanting to raise the alarm, Alex and Sarge creep up on them

and silently take them down.

But Popeye charges and the lone guard retreats screaming.

Red and Blue stand shoulder to shoulder to cover their Master with their slim bodies

Dr. Fu and Generla Chang turn to see who dares interrupt while Lo Fang continues chanting.

Popeye catches the unfortunate Pirate.

And pummels him into silence while more Pirates form up.

And shoot down a poor merchant marine.
The rest fire on the pirates

who flee behind the shelter of a metal building

meanwhile, Alex leads the Navy into the garden guns blazing!

wounding the unlucky LT. Chong and a pirtate

Popeye pursues the fleeing Pirates yelling "Olive Oyl!"

the pirates keep running

and Dr. Fu smiles in menacing pleasure

as Sarge and Sailor Howard finish off the wounded foe

Dr. Fu stuns Popeye with a bold of eldrich light while the Navy keeps up the pressure

and take the second row of dragons

as the sailors gawk at the fighting

but the pirates aren't licked!

General Chang leads a charge

into a storm of American lead

while Popeye catches the pirates...

Sarge makes sure the General doesn't get up

Sailor Howard careful aims and drops Dr. Fu!

as Alex rushes the dais and bashing the man [her missing father] holding Helen who falls into his arms

Red attacks Helen, karate chopping the poor historian into submission while Blue and Alex tussle

giving Lo Fang the final seconds he needs to...

a tentacle grabs Red and pulls her screaming down...
one attacks Alex and he finally shoots it apart...
one lashes forth knocking Popeye down as he rushed to Olives side...
and the last snatches up poor Olive and...

Popeye leaps up tearing with spinach fueled hands at the eldrich thing

while Alex rushes Lo Fang

only to be karate chopped down as Popeye rips apart with bare hands the tentacles

Popeye turns to Lo Fang who grins and says in perfect English, "are you not forgetting someone?"

he leaps down and they fight again

and Popeye is good to the finish!

as Lo Fang and Blue flee...

silence descends on the garden

Alex smiles as Helen kisses him on the cheek. Her father frowns disapprovingly from the doorway of the Clipper back to San Francisco. He never forgave Alex for punching his lights out on the dais.

"Are you certain you can't stay?" He asked.

She smiled coyly, "He needs my help to write his paper on all this. Write me."

He mumbled some vague assurances and watched her leave. Walking from the seaplane port to where Barracuda was docked took no time at all and Alex looked forward to a simple patrol. It was finally over.

Or was it?

Well this game was a roller coaster. First off Popeye's dice were hot, especially after he spinached up after a lucky shot from a pirate. The heros would have lost if not for him, with Alex losing his fight with Lo Fang. What was especially thrilling was that it came down to who got activated first as to whether Lo Fang would get the gate open because he had to chant [representing his spell prep time] for so long before he could open the gate, and when he did, the only ones who could activate were him, Popeye and Alex so no interference from the gun toting sailors or Navy. Well it didnt matter as Popeye was able to, against the odds, destroy 3 of the 4 tentacles, #4 having carried off to her doom poor Red. [red dress=red shirt?] Sailor Howard came out a hero, killing everything in front of him with either a quick shot or his bayonet. Sarge had his fun early. Overall a fun game even if a tad of a bummer that Popeye pulled it off instead of Alex, but maybe next time. Thanks for looking.

A non-stop thrill ride. Just as a good pulp adventure ought to be.

I joined my gun with pirate swords, and sailed the seas of cyberspace.

Excellent

I really like the garden wall - foamboard and paper tiles?

and the tentacles coming out of the centre piece are just too cool

thanks for sharing
