I am very proud :D

Thank you Paul...

I am really glad that you approve, Giles.

Cheers, Colin.

They are very simple, mate.
Just plain old bits of paper with the signs printed out using a suitable font.
When you asked I still had the leftovers from this building so it was a simple matter of taking a picture of each stage as I made another...

The sheet of 'signs' that were left over from the shed and a fine tipped pen...

I just drew the surrounds of the sign with the pen and a straight edge (hence the pack of cards... ;))....

The smaller details quickly dotted in with the pen.
Another straight line through the centre and a mix of a few squiggly and straight lines randomly dotted about on the sign...

Then it is simply cut out and stuck in place with watered down PVA or wood glue.
After that a simple watered down wash of Army Painter Soft Shade to lose the whiteness and done.

Simple and finished in five minutes and should look something like this:

Hope that helps... :)

So thats how you did the wood grain on the sign, Very clever… very clever indeed.

I may have to give that a go. I wasn't sure how my freehand sign writing would go in 1/52 ;)

As for freehand, I know what you mean.
I attempted some freehand on the Bank sign, but the wood that I drew it on seemed to suck the ink out of the pen and spread it, leaving a blurred edge like this....

I think that I will go back and do this one on a printer as well.
 ;)

Yeah. Comparing the two it is pretty clear which turns out more finished. I'd have thought freehand would have been more individual and distinguished. But I was wrong. Thanks for the lesson Paul, I'll put it to use on my gun shop.

Cheers
Matt.

I hope you find it useful, mate.
The main problem I had with the freehand sign on the Bank was with the fact that the balsa that it was drawn on was 'sucking' the ink out of the nib and it was spreading beyond any attempt at control.
That is why it appears quite messy.

I guess I will just have to go back and do it again on paper.
Not a problem as it only takes a few minutes.

 lol
Cheers, mate, but I think you would have to shrink a fair bit to get in there....
As for a mini: I shall be keeping my eyes open for something useful and appropriate when I start to populate the town.
 ;)

That is it for the Hardware Store for now, it is time to move on to somthing a little different for a change......

For a suitably sophisticated looking proprietor for  Eric the Shed's store perhaps the Dixon preacher would work (the well dressed one, not the crazy one with the gun)? He could be carrying a store ledger or something?:

Thanks for the suggestion, Steve.
He does look a bit of a dapper fella.
I will have to check out the Dixon line when it comes to putting a few Townsfolk in place later on in the project.

Regarding the next building to be 'pimped'...I think a small change from standard buildings is in order, so the Water Tower that I bought from Bobble is next in line for the treatment.

Here it is in it's current condition...

As you can see, Bobble has done a fine job with it's construction.

I have fixed it to an MDF base and removed the water pipe as it was extremely fragile the way it was attached and, knowing certain members of my gaming group (Bullock!), it may not have lasted long.

Whether or not the ladder survives is another matter entirely!

I will post some more pictures when some progress has been made...

That is a TERRIFIC looking Water Tower...are you going to have a railroad going through town? Be that as it may, I look forward to your improvements.
