The goblin warband of Grum 'Eadchoppa do battle with the reanimated warriors of an ancient civilisation.

I've managed to finish two more skeletons for the undead warband today:

And here's a group-shot of the warband so far:

That is half the warband done.
With that, I'll be taking a short break from painting undead, since I am now waiting on an order from Ral Partha for the last couple of guys for the warband.
I still need to get the Vampire painted, but the mini seems intimidating, so I am holding off on that for a bit as well. Next up will propably be some adventurers of sorts.

You did a great job on him nonetheless.

If you put another one together, put the head on top of his torso instead of how the kit is designed to be put together. It's a world of a difference in looks  ;)

I am trying this on the next one. Well, not entirely on top of the body, but I've raised the head up a little bit. He's turning into a bit of a project though, since I've decided to "nurgle-ify" him.

Lovely pj! :-*

Thanks  :D Yeah, the wrinkles threw me off a bit as well. Such is the hardships of improvising backgrounds from whatever is within arms reach of my paint-station.

The Old Plastic Chaos Guy did paint up in OUTSTANDING fashion...the gold & red go well together. GREAT WORK!
I think the major objection Folks had with that style mini was the difficulty ranking them up. Otherwise he seems to go well with the older Chaos types.

That would make sense. I do find that they have a lovely old school feel to them, and are pretty fun to paint as well. Then again: I am a sucker for the old chaos warriors.

I occasionally do, though not as much as I would like. It can be difficult finding an opponent at times. If you do decide to swing by, let me know :)

While I was suposed to study, I got a start on my Dwarven Warband.

This guy has a "Norse" look to him. I like that he is wielding a sword, as you only rarely see that on dwarves. A pretty nice and clean/simple mini from Black Tree Designs Fantasy line. Their stuff is pretty neat, given the price. Not SUPER inspiring, but often way better than their rubbish presentation makes it look. I am quite looking forward to painting a couple more of their dwarves. They mix very well with 80-90'ies GW dwarves, so that is neat.

Dwarven warriors are reknowned for their grim determination and stubborn refusal to give in to fear. In battle, they often end up fighting the most terrifying of creatures, since they tend to be the only ones with the nerve to do it.

I've had to hand back my girlfriends camera to her, so these shots are a bit blurry. Hopefully I can wrestle it back again soonish  :D

He is a determined looking Little Warrior. I love your selection of colors & your brushwork is as BEAUTIFUL as ever. VERY WELL DONE!
I recently got most of my order of Black Tree & Harlequin Dwarfs. They really do have an abundance of charm that escapes the photos in their listing.

Thanks  :D Metals is a thing I used to have a lot of trouble with, so I've actually worked quite a bit on improving them.

I'll be looking forward to seeing how yours end up. I have a couple more around I am working on as well.
As for BTD's photos; they should pay someone to get them painted up. I recon they'd shift quite a few more! When Forlorn Hope Games got some of their Em4 Fantasy Warriors painted, it did heaps for getting me interested in them! And now I find my self actually collecting them (at some point I want 1 of each - painted up and game ready)

As the woods lie wreathed in mists, and all sensible folk stay inside with the doors shut, something stirs. Though the patrols have done theirs to clear out the undead threat, ever more seems to be rising. Even decisive victories only give the people of Oakenshire a short respite, for a dire pressence has come to the vale.

Detail:

Yesterday I got a shipment from Ral Partha with the last few guys I need for my undead warband (for now. Err..). Just now, I've finished this guy: A skeleton from their Fantasy Armies line. What a great guy! I really love the armour design and pose of this guy - Classic fantasy! Very much looking forward to painting the last couple of guys.
With the planned missile support, the warband will be fit for 150 Renown Open Combat games! The goal, for now, is to have two fully painted warbands I can play and demo with.

Slowly plotting on - Another soldier done for my "city guard" warband:

The setting I have loosely described, dwarves and humans live together, and this will be reflected in the warband. I've gone for Red as the uniting colour (perhaps the heraldric colour of the citys ancient founder) with the dwarves having accents in blues, and the men having yellows and whites. This will also allow me to field them as two distinct warbands sometime in the future.
The heraldry and colourscheme of this guy is greatly influenced by some googling for danish medieval heraldry and uniforms - If any one has any great links; please share them. I find it a bit hard to know where to start.

Cheers!

Skeletons burst forth from the forest to ambush a guard patrol.

I managed to finish 2 miniatures this morning: A Ral Partha Skeleton Bowman and another Fantasy Warriors Foot Knight.

Both very quick miniatures to paint, and very characterful too. It'll be nice to finally have some kind of missile support for my evil warbands. I've got yet another skeleton bowman undercoated and ready to paint sitting on my desk as well. For some reason I always find it terribly boring to paint bowmen, so all of my collections and warbands have a certain lack of them. I just find them kinda necessary for games, since the threat of ranged attacks at a lot of dynamic to most of the systems I play.
And also - Warbands look better with varied equipment.

I also tried to take some group shots of my Open Combat dedicated warbands, and how they look so far:

The Undead : There's a skeleton hiding in the back as well. Only need to paint 3 more models for these!

The City Guard : These still have a way to go. At least 4 more dudes, but propably a bit more.
I really want a couple of halberdiers/spearmen in sorta regimented uniforms, but am having a hard time deciding which to get.
Looked at these:

... from claymore castings, but they are unfortunately out of stock.

At any rate, thats all for now.
Thanks for reading!
