I'll be looking forward to seeing how yours end up. I have a couple more around I am working on as well.
As for BTD's photos; they should pay someone to get them painted up. I recon they'd shift quite a few more! When Forlorn Hope Games got some of their Em4 Fantasy Warriors painted, it did heaps for getting me interested in them! And now I find my self actually collecting them (at some point I want 1 of each - painted up and game ready)

The new Lads look as TERRIFIC as the rest of your creations...GREAT painting has a unifying effect. The UBERCOOL photos in the forest setting really enhance the miniatures & visa versa FANTASTICALLY. VERY WELL DONE!

It just occurred to me that I can show you what the Black Tree Dwarfs look like painted. I have the ones I did from the Cap'n John's Resurrected Display Case posted here:

Ooh, that is very handy! (And your cabinet of miniatures is truelly impressive. Makes my  ~shelf of painted stuff pale in comparison.  :D  )
They definitely paint up well. I am planning to go to them when I need to add to my dwarf warband. Thanks for sharing the link :)

Re: Affun's lead-pile - 1/5-15 - New Gaming Table
« Reply #183 on: 01 May 2015, 01:43:59 PM »
A couple of days ago I finished a small project I've been meaning to do for quite some time: A 12"x12" mini-gaming table.

The idea is that the small size and light weight will allow me to take it all sorts of places, making it ideal for demonstration and other small games - Even though my regular 24"x24" table is kinda smallish too, its still a bit cumbersome. This table is very quick to get out and ready for a game.

Undead ambush a patrol of humans from the city Horve - Will the bravery and steel of men be enough to carry the day?

It also a bit of an experiment. I've been wanting to try out this idea of very small/intimate encounters with a limited playing field, and to try out what that would do for the games I play. I like the idea of playing games of Open Combat, for example, where the entire action is focused around a  single inn or farmhouse. Hopefully the tight quarters will make for some interesting tactical decisions.

... and hopefully I'll be able to get more games played, as well. Yesterday I took the table to a boardgames meey-up on my university, though I had to leave sort of early, and therefor only got 3 games in - two of which were against one of my friends who is my regular opponent.
Still, it shows potential.

Thats all for now: Cheers! And thanks for reading!

You are a big inpiration man. Loving your work and because of that I have set out to collect random fantasy Minis as a diversion from my bigger Army projects. Thanks for pointing out those lesser Goblins as they are a nice start and lovely buggers, shame only that the prize for them has doubled since you got them.

Can`t wait till I get my Hands on them. Where is the Goblin in your Profile Pic from? he looks liek a Kev Adams Sculpt as well although not from the lesser Goblin pack.

cheers and keep it up!

Beautiful figures all around!

Regarding the table sizes, did you consider a 24x24 that folds, to make it less cumbersome?

I did consider it, but decided, for this one, to go for a simple and small project. Weigth was a big part of that consideration. The next project will be some modular bits, allowing for larger games.

Yeah, I noticed the price-hike on the goblins as well. Seems a little over the top in my opinion, but they are some really nice miniatures.

The profile pic Goblin is this guy:

He is from the Heartbreaker range, and is indeed a Kev Adams sculpt. Ral Partha Europe produces the line now. They are a bit "big", but should fit together well with the likes of Crooked Claw and Black Tree Designs (I've got my eye on those Crooked Claw gobbos when I can afford it)

In the same line is also some very nice old school orcs, one of which is in my painting que for when I get around to my Greenskin warband.

That does look TERRIFIC...it has photographic as well as gaming possibilities. GREAT WORK!

I will admit that I also build it to be able to take some better scenic pictures. Such projects always turn out to have a great many uses.

***

I've finished a couple of miniatures more.
First off, some deadites:

A nice and old Citadel Wraith - A lot of fun to paint, if a bit chunky pose.
The zombies where a quick "spicing up" of some old paint jobs of mine. I kinda dislike them and really want to replace them with something else (Like Gripping Beasts new revenants.  :-* ), but I needed them for a demo game, and they where very quick to touch up.

I'll take some group pictures of the entire gang at some point, and write a post about how I use them in Open Combat over on my blog at a later point.

Next up - A very recently finished Marauder Dwarf Miner:

This guy had a serious casting defect, or glue-accident from a previous owner, over his right eye, so his face didn't turn out that well in the end.

Lastly, I also finally managed to finish this guy:

He's been sitting basecoated in my closet for somewhere around a year, and I finaly managed to finish him with a sort of quick paintjob. It's done, I think he looks decently playable, and he also nicely completes my City Guard demo-game warband as well.

Thanks for reading and commenting!

Lovely, the Colin Dixon Dwarf Miners are among my Favourites. Thanks for the ID on the Goblin.

I have contacted croocked claw with some questions since I would be interested in mixed but not so random Packs, but haven`t heard back yet. I think those are some of Kev Adams best Goblins.

Looking forward to your next Update.

I very much agree - On both points. I looked up Colin Dixon, and it turned out he's responsible for quite a few of my favourite Gw Dwarfs of that period. In particular, I think his Ironbreakers are superb, though I haven't been able to lay my hands on some at a reasonable price yet.

As for the Crooked Claw, I am in much the same boat. I want some archers, but not necessarily 5 of them. I may end up just ordering a pack of archers and 1 or 2 of the random packs though. And the warlord. I need that miniature.

***

The silhouette was illuminated by the thunder. It stood in stark contrast to the burning sky behind it. Borges picked himself up from the mud he had been thrown into. Strangely, the silhouette didn't react to this.
Neither did it when Borges went for his war-hammer, which lay a couple of feet from where he had fallen.
Only when Borges had regained his weapon and posture, the silhouette reacted - nodding his way.
A melodious voice rang out from beneath the featureless helmet:

"Let us resume"

I've managed to finish another Warrior. This time a champion of Slaanesh. It's a miniature I've had around in my bits box for quite a while, as I haven't really had a use for it and I find it pretty uninspiring. I've done a few conversions - His shield is swapped with a mace, and his head for a more intimidating one - in order to make the miniature a bit more interesting.

This miniature was a huge pain to get painted. He is a classic example of everything I loathe when painting gw miniatures: No flat surfaces to be creative with/freehand or blend, lots of annoying and fiddly stupid details that you miss on the first go and then have to return to(why does his kneeguard have gem earings? That is ridiculous), and a boring pose. It took absolute ages to finish, and was a real slog by the end.
In the end, it turned out okay - I experimented a bit with painting potions, though I am not quite happy with the effect; perhaps I choose the wrong colour for them.

I am happy that I got him out of the bits box and game-ready though. I think he'll be fun to play with, especially as my most regular opponent is quite keen on Slaanesh-y stuff ( ::) )
Two more to go, before I have a warrior from each god!
I might need an undivided guy as well. Oh boy..

The Chaotic Warriors of Kinkiness are nothing if not snappy dressers. Your Guy lives up to my preconceptions SPLENDIDLY.
There are some minis that fit in the finished-&-good-riddance category. I take it this is one of those...VERY WELL DONE!

I understand your feelings about the Slaaneshi champion. It's not my favorite GW fig. either. Gw at the time were sometimes a hit but mostly a big miss. The Nurgle Champ form the same era, on the other end, is nothing but exceptional imho  :).
But love to see the progress on your lead pile.

Definitely. I had completely forgotten about that Nurgle Champion, though I entirely agree. I might have to look out for one now.
Now that the Slaanesh champion is painted, I am quite happy with the miniature. It just really felt painful to paint!

Definitely in the finished-&-Good-riddance category. But I enjoy having it as a game ready piece. In the end, it's always worth it.

Thanks for the kind words!

I have a short ramble about using the miniature in games of Open Combat over on my blog, for those into that kind of thing.
