would it not be easier to combine already available figures into the dismounted cavalry packs? I recall even the horse-holder

I think it sends the wrong message that the smokers get to hold the horses.  ;)

Otherwise none of the range, barring an officer or two, are wearing riding boots.

I am anything but a SCW uniform specialist, but this footwear does not qualify as chaps or some similar kind of crues-wear?

Where do I start? Only the Foreign Legion could have beards in the Spanish Army (and who used British style ammunition pouches in any case). The boot or leather gaiter wearing figures are all officers and cavalry did not wear 'puttees'. The legwear which does look like riding breeches are in fact the standard infantry uniform trousers, called 'Granadero'.

I'll admit some conversion wouldn't be difficult, but as I'm going to be throwing money at Empress to buy the figures to convert anyway, why not have Empress share the load by making some actual dismounted cavalry.

that was the detailed info I was squinting at  ;)

You are right, the question is when they can be released...
But if You buy nationalist infantry You can use them as stand-ins anytime, until the real ones arrive.

But while I am at the well - I saw some pictures with mounted regulares and carlists once, or were they from a different period?

No from the same period. There were mounted Requetés, Falangists, Moros, Popular Militia, Guardia Civil, Asaltos and Carabineros. Seville's Policia Local also raised a volunteer unit, as did some Andalucian landowners, both of which looked somewhat like Mexican Bandidos in a Hollywood Western or Argentine Gauchos.

The only faction who did not have cavalry (or more correctly mounted infantry in some cases), were the Italians and even then some of the Spanish formations were issued with Italian equipment, so pretty much looked like an Italian cavalry unit.

The depth of variety in the GCE is somewhat understated.  :)

it should be the dream setting for every Miniature Wargamer.
Unsurprisingly, VBCW must then be the projection of SCW to the british dominance in miniature wargaming....

You may have a point there actually... I've always described it as SCW with appalling weather.  ;)

I believe I know understand what VBCW is about - THX for the insight. :-I

So, there really should be dismounted nationalist cavalry, but I'd fancy some regulares cavalry as well

To be fair, some of VBCW is about making use of vehicles which never saw battle in the real world, some of it in that it is politically neutral, as it largely involves factions which no longer exist - bear in mind that in modern Spain, every one of the political factions that took part in the SCW are all alive and well.

With VBCW you can write out the most unpleasant parts of its potential history, play your games like a Jeeves and Wooster, or Biggles adventure, safe in the knowledge that the only thing hurt is the losing players ego. With SCW, I have passed along streets which I have also seen strewn with bodies in photos.

Any fictional '30s Civil conflict invites comparison with the SCW and how the VBCW develops is fundamentally different, so my calling it SCW with heavy rain is quite unfair.

;)

Anyway...

The variations in SCW figures have yet to be fully exploited and indeed Regulares cavalry are indeed attractive.

We have quite a lot of new releases for the SCW coming out in the next few months.  ;)

Any news about the new SCW releases. I'm eager to paint a SCW Platoon for Bolt Action.

...or Biggles adventure...

Biggles was actually accidentally involved in the Spanish Civil War in the books. As I recall he was pretty neutral, and both sides are treated as bad guys (they are all foreigners, after all). :)

The adventure ends when Biggles, Ginger and Algy make a daring escape from one of Franco's POW camps, steal a plane and fly to France.

Dismounted cavalry is a great idea, including horse holder.
Yes they are! How about one for the Boers in the AZW range then? ;)
