Very Nice!!

The larger scale stuff does take a little getting used to but I think your gladiators look in good fighting form! I especially like the net, although I would be a little worried about handling it for gaming ( I'm a bit of a clumsy git)

Look forward to seeing more.

Very Nice!!
Look forward to seeing more.

Since you asked nicely  :D

I started on my arena floor today.  The baseboard is 3' x 3' x 6mm MDF and the hexes are from Warbases.  I started with a central row and then worked out from there.  Here are some work in progress shots.

In the background you can see the first section of the actual arena primed ready for painting.

Here is the completed playing area.

I now need to finish off a couple of hex edges and the sand and paint it.  Hopefully that will be this weekend.  I also started on the arena stands and have primed all the base units.  You can see one section in the background shots.  Painting will follow.

Post again soon.  Valeant et nunc!

This is all coming along very nicely.

The gladiators are great and the playmobil entrance sure looks grand.

Bonum est vespere.
Here is the next instalment of the Arena.  All the sections primed ready for painting and placed on the board.

Unfortunately switching from one can of primer to another (same make) resulted in a darker shade of grey on a couple of sections.  I am wondering if it will be noticeable once I dry brush the walls and paint the columns?

I have also been experimenting with the best colour combination for the sand and I am almost there.  Hopefully sand will be laid tomorrow and painting will commence very soon after that.

Valeant et nunc.

That looks the nuts already.

This is going to be one great-looking gaming arena when it is finished.

Bonem est vespere.  Thanks for all the encouragement.  The last few days have been a bit busy for all of us but I have managed to sand the arena.  Here are the latest WIP shots.

Here is the arena floor.

Then with the arena sides.

And a close up of the cobbles around the arena.

Next I need to paint the cobbles.  Not sure if they should be in grey or a red sandstone to give the place a little contrast.  I feel a little experimentation coming on.  :D  Once that is done I intend to edge the baseboard to prevent damage and give it a good coat of varnish.

Then it will be onto the Arena walls and spectators area.  I am still looking for some cheap 54mm spectators to occupy the gallery.  If anyone knows of some please pass on the info.

Valeant et nunc.

Looks marvelous!  I just sold off my arena on ebay unfortunately (just never really think I'll get around to it).  I can't wait to see the final project (I'm hoping for lots of details outside of the arena too!)

I think a bit of variety in colours and textures will not only look better, but also save your sanity, mate.

That looks great!  How did you make the cobbles?

It looks like textured wallpaper to me.
