Just finished adding some feet to the dwarf. I've never done feet before, so these are simply flattened sausages of greenstuff. It looks a little weird right now, but that's probably (I hope) because it's a different colour to the grey plastic. Regardless, Fulk Longsole is done, and will be first up for painting.

As I mentioned the other day, I found some cool rogue bits in a Perry box, and threw this together:

Perry arms and body, Mongol head, Warlord ECW hat. A simple one, done for kicks.

Then, things got complicated. I was listening to some music while tidying up my plastic mess, and ended up listening to music from Seven Samurai, Conan the Barbarian and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. The resulting model owes a little something to each of those:

I guess it's a sorcerer or wizard of some kind. In it, we have: Fireforge sergeant body, Warlord Roman head, Fireforge Mongol arms, Wargames Factory samurai armour and headpiece, and GW Flagellant chains, skulls and bones. I went through dozens of arm options for this before I figured out what I wanted to do with it - at various points, it was an L5R Lion Clan samurai (then I screwed up the polearm I was attempting to make), a barbarian with sword and shield (that was the Robin Hood influence), etc.

Unfortunately, I now prefer this model to my original Frostgrave wizard...

Nice kit bashing! How long are the legs on the Bretonian men-at-arms?  I checked out GW's website and its hard to tell on their picture, but your dwarf really looks much shorter than the fire forge-based model.

I don't have any full Bretonnian bodies left, but the robe that reaches to the ground on the dwarf is originally (roughly) mid-calf-length. That'd put a full Bretonnian about the same height as a Fireforge model, but considerably bulkier. Were it not for the fact that I wanted a really stocky, barrel-chested look, I wouldn't have combined them!

I'm very curios on the whole system and setting. We want more teasers ;)
And great builds so far, I really like the roughness of them :)

Thanks for the review.  I had a lot of hopes when GW released their new dwarfs, but I am definitely not a fan.  I think it'll be Avatars of War for my dwarfs!

It's not due out for a while, but I'll let the author know - perhaps we can sort out some sneak peak or another...

Silversixx,

Here is the original blog post I wrote about Frostgrave:

http://therenaissancetroll.blogspot.co.uk/2013/07/frostgrave.html

Here is another I wrote about choosing to use d20s exclusively for the game:

http://therenaissancetroll.blogspot.co.uk/2013/10/frostgrave-d20-decision.html

I keep meaning to write another one about designing the combat system, but I've been busy with the playtesting and making little tweaks to the game...I'm sure I'll get to it soon enough...

I've got to admit, Smith has really managed a terrific look by mixing the two fireforge kits!

Cheers! I have to admit that I've already read, thus my interest in some more info ;)

Managed to get some paint thrown around this weekend, and so have these five characters to show for it.

Wizard and Apprentice:

I decided to go with the second sorcerer model I built – it just seemed to fit the overall feel of the gang a bit better. Apologies for the lighting – rest assured that neither model's face is particularly well done, making their shadowed appearance quite the blessing!

Two Thugs and a Crossbowman:

All the bases need finishing – they'll be edged and might have some static grass added (contrary to the setting of the game, but I reckon it'll lift the bases a smidgen, and will fit better with the rest of my collection).

The remaining five models for the starting gang are also under way, so with a bit of luck, I'll have everything painted soon, and I can then start playing while also working on some of the more specialist henchmen types...

They look great, the wizard and apprentice have a strong Conan-esque look to them - which is fantastic!

Well, that's the first gang finished!

The Ranger:

The remaining henchmen – three Thugs, one Crossbowman (seen here with a friend):

And the obligatory group shot:

And, as a demo game in the office requires more than just one gang, here's gang number two, all built, based and ready to go under the brush...

The theme for this gang is something more along the lines of a religious order. I picked up the Fireforge Templars box, primarily to get the cloaks and hooden heads, but I liked the rest of the kit so much I used it almost exclusively for the bodies and arms here. It gives a nice, semi-uniform feel as well as a clerical touch. Of course, I mixed it up with some Warlord Roman heads and shields. At the moment, they look awfully, well, Roman, but I hope the paintjob will differentiate them a fair bit.

So, we have a Wizard and Apprentice (not sure which is which yet; but I really like the flame-conjuring effect the guy on the left has):

And the henchmen – two Swordsmen (with spears), two Bowmen and two Thugs:
