Here's the start of my Frostgrave warband. (Assuming that is the right term).
Still a way to go yet but I thought I'd make a start. First up we have the Wizard and his apprentice, I wanted to go for a 'seer' style wizard so both of these will be getting blindfolds. Clearly their magical senses guide them.

Next up we have some specialists, a barbarian with great axe and two tomb raider/treasure hunter types.

Then the core of the band, two halbadiers and a low level thug.

Still under assembly are a pair of crossbowmen and three more thugs. The above figures will also be getting some adventuring gear added such as ropes and lanterns, plus some fur trim etc to help with the snow. The apprentice's hand is also calling out for some kind of spell effect...

One thing I really like about the whole Frostgrave set up is the figures are good fantasy tropes that I can find use for elsewhere too. So I'm quite happy making a bunch of figures that will look good and go well together even though they might not all end up in a usable warband.

Nice warband so far  :)

That's one of the things I like about Frostgrave, you can just use any mini you like.
My new warband will be made up using Citadel Skaven  :D

Northstar has just revealed they will be making metal and plastic for this game! They should be revealing the first sculpts soon.

Smith, I seem to recall that on your blog you mentioned that you would "address" every model with a hand weapon being called a swordman, with hand weapons having the same rules. Were you implying different rules for the weapons or just calling it man at arms or something like that?

The latter - a hand weapon is a hand weapon, be it axe, sword, mace or whatever. That's always been the case in the rules, so calling the henchman type a 'Swordsman' was a little jarring! The Swordsman has since been renamed Man-At-Arms.

There are a number of different weapon types, but the 'hand weapon' is the baseline. Two different henchmen types that are both armed with a hand weapon (e.g. Thug and Man-At-Arms) will be very different despite the common weapon type - the Man-At-Arms is more skilled with his weapon, is better armoured, tougher, and has more staying power than the Thug.

I was part of the playtest so I am aware of the way things worked. I'm glad you were talking about a re-name, not a re-write. Nice to see i predicted the new name correctly.  :D

EDIT: I should not try to type on my phone.  ;D

Ah, gotcha! It seemed a little rude not to go with that new name, given Osprey's publishing history!

I've just popped up a new blog, featuring my latest hare-brained, unlikely-to-be-finished-soon scheme: a castle!

http://www.plasticmalpractice.blogspot.co.uk/2015/04/real-estate.html

The walls are really quite flimsy, so if anyone has built with this kit in the past, I would love to hear some experiences on how to make them look a little more robust!

Right! Hadn't even considered that one.  lol

You know I remember eyeing that castle or one very much like it in toy catalogues long ago.

Personally I have a fisher price castle lying around, if I get frostgrave going here I might try to use work on that, hopefully get some inspiration from you. I was thinking of sticking some foam in the hollow parts and giving all of it a texture paint layer. I would suggest trying to break it up into parts of city wall like structures and towers. IIRC frostgrave is set in a sunken frozen ruined city, where those features would not be out of place. keeping them modular or rather stand alone would allow for varying layouts. Long ago I played mordheim a lot on a not entirely in scale castle set and after a while the same layout gets old.

I looked at it once, a while ago, I had intended to base and double up the walls. Put them back to back, spaced enough for the walkway to fit. Couldn't find it cheap enough to buy two though.
So many projects..... so little time.......

Ahh that was your model I was thinking of, White Knight.  I knew I had seen that toy done up nicely somewhere on LAF before.  8)

Ah, yes - those photos look familiar! 'Course, I'll settle for something that looks half that good.

What are the statues in front of the door? GW?

GW fantasy chapel set, or manner as that is a combo pack of the tower and chapel plus a connecting bit. Probably one of the nicest pieces in that set.

Some more information for those of us interested in the game but not privy to playtesting and other insider goodness  ;D

Indeed, you can probably find the statues on ebay on their own, or at least you used to. The torches are from the same set. Flagpoles on the turrets are scratchbuilt using wire and beads. Decorative icons on the wall are old GW empire shield icons. Doors are made from wood, with some plastic strips, knockers are curved wire with some greenstuff.

I picked up several sets at under £10 so plan to turn them into city walls, by cannibalising someof the sets for the backside. Alternatively, you could just put some foam sheet or such against the backsides and spackle it over.

I nabbed mine off eBay... No idea if they're in production or what.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys - I'd love a second set, but I think foam/spackle is the more likely solution!
