Ghost Hawk Dropship
« on: February 06, 2014, 02:21:21 AM »
Taking advantage of a snow day from work to work on a dropship.  I started with a GI Joe Ghost Hawk for a base.

I wanted to have it carrying a cargo container so I chose to use "Storage Container" from Burn In Designs that you can find here: http://www.burnindesigns.net/2012/07/new-product-storage-container.html

After cutting away the main body of the Ghost Hawk, I glued in the container.  Let me know what you think.

Looking good, toy hacks are a lot of fun and they produce unique pieces which would cost too much as a produced gaming piece... here's to more snow!

Thanks!  The storage container ended up fitting better than I had hoped.  The original toy doesn't have clear doors, but I guess the sides of the container could roll down.  Still have to remove the pegs from where the rockets would go and fill some more gaps before priming.

That's a good start!  Not a huge fan of the GI Joe craft to start with, but the scale etc. looks excellent.  I'd love to see it when finished.

Sweet.  I'll be getting one of those too.  You should see what I did with my Cobra Night Raven.  I threw together a near-future Confederate Navy dropship, painted it and got the decals finished recently.  I love GI Joe stuff for hobby gaming.

Looking at the front of that ship, I think that the green panel, just in front of the existing cockpit, would make a good cockpit for the scale (if painted in a suitable colour).

I think that the addition of the container has definitely worked on this too... nice work so far.

Yep, if you mean the small two square sections - that's what caught my eye for a cockpit (or add a small canopy section there.  Would be much more suitable.

I think he means the section above that; would be fine for large open viewing.

Personally, I think you're spot on, though, for a military dropship. Should be all sensors and cameras, but sky Scots gotta have their bit of real world, just in case...

Great use of that bit of MDF scenery! My advice would be to epoxy sculpt the joints though so they are less visible when it's painted.
