Another great addition. I really like your Background stories (don't I say that evrytime?) - though dwarves don't teach their language to outsider... (ha, Tolkien geeking again - I love it). This is a great rpg-like background and I enjoy the feeling that your heroes are all individuals with their own identity. Well done.

As to the conversion: better than anything have ever done.  :)

Not knowing much about the Tolkien universe but how does Elrond then knows what the moon runes mean on the Erebor card during the Hobbit? And how Gandalf can read the runes on the entrance of Moria as well as the book in the tomb of balin?

Ah, but if The 13th Warrior taught us anything, it's that languages can be picked up from immersion, especially if (as here with Rymond) one has an ear for them.

Simple: The dwarves used Elvish language to write being paranoid that others might pick up their language from written examples.  ;)

And that's the reason they never speak it in front of others. Except in their battle cries.

But never mind that, as I said it's just Tolkien geeking on my part.

But aren't those Dwarvish runes we see on both Thorin's map and on the Tomb of Balin?

Well, in the movies maybe. Not in the books. Though I'm not sure if Tolkien was already into the language Paranoia of the dwarves when he wrote the Hobbit. In the appendices (or was it the Silmarillion?) he states that dwarves don't usually write their language down and don't teach it to anybody. Again, there are obviously exception to the rule - as far as I know Gandalf claims to know Dwarvish.

As I said, it's a purely intellectual exercise on my part here. I believe the backgroundstory of Rymond is great and I don't see any Problem with it. Hey, after all, Tolkien's world should be and is open to individual interpretation.

It seems that Prince Altherion has brought a few of his household troops, the Royal Guard of Tolfolas to join crew of the Glaurung...

Nice neat paintjob, just fine and dandy, and I certainly like the idea of the Royal chap taking his bodyguard along with him.
A good element for the storytelling side of the project.
 :-* 8) :-*

Two spaces left, eh....intriguing as to what exactly will fill them.
A 'thief' or scout type character may be helpful... ;)

Well, the 13th warrior so to speak. Maybe some native from Harad who knows the lay of the land. Either as a sellsword Kind of person or perhaps one who is not too happy with the Dark Lords design on his homeland. No matter what, I'm looking forward to new and exciting ideas.
