28mm French armoured cars
« on: April 01, 2014, 12:28:42 AM »
Does anybody know of any 28mm scale French armoured cars or alternatively which vehicles (Rolls Royce/Lanchester etc) would do as "stand ins"?

Is there a particular model you're looking for?

I would be interested to know as well, but I am afraid there were none. From what I read motorization occured very late in the french army. There were trucked portee units though

Well, technical that's true. There is real scope in using the Renault and Peugeot armoured cars, as the French would have a group of armoured cars made up of three sections, each consisting of three armoured cars; two armed with machine guns (in the early years usually on a Renault chassis) and one with cannon. But in 1915, when the stalemate began, they were relegated to patrolling roads in rear areas and bringing fire support when needed.

Models of any of the cars would be great, I find them fascinating.  I am also interested in their use in the interwar years.

Bryanbowdell, thanks for that PDF and there's a few that make WWI/inter war armoured cars:

1st Corps:

Brigade Games:

Company B:

Empress Miniatures:

There's definitely others I've missed, so don't take this as definitive.

Scheltrum do some, and we have on occasion  had stock, but not until post Salute as we are currently sold out (we have a Benz truck left actually)

Once I have got a full stock holding in (we only carried a couple of codes) I will take photos and put them all on line. I do have a photo of the Scheltrum French a/c, but it got a bit washed out, will see if I can locate it
Kind regards

Scheltrum do a White armoured car, variant of which I think I'm right saying were still being used in ww2 by Vichy forces.

I've PM'd Mark regarding his offer to research some WW1 vehicles, with the possibility of them being produced by 1st Corps (please see his link in the forums).
