I agree with Carlos, 6mm gives a great mass look, and 28mm for detail, I would though get rid of the pikes and stick black brush bristles on the figs and paint silver tips on. as it's more realistic and durable. Alternatively castle arts is doing a nice new 10mm samurai range

I must admit, you would be better getting a plastic kit (1:300) of a Japanese castle as that Irregular one is rather wrong in a lot of ways  ;)

I got given the model of Matsumoto-jo and I will eventually make it but leave it off it's scenic base and have it on a dedicated board with hopefully all the proper buildings around it.

That's probably a good idea Jim, about the castle I mean. Those plastic kits tend to be pretty good quality from what I have seen.

They are very good quality for the scale and there are so many available now. You can get temples in scale as well  :)

Er, Japan I'm afraid  :)

HLJ is a good source and the pricing isn't too bad but their stock levels leave a lot to be desired on certain items.

Just had a look at the castles, they are very nice. Are they card or plastic? This does lean me towards 6mm. Hmmmmm, will have a look at warfare in November

The Japanese Japanese castles are all plastic.

Enjoyed the topic on the Boshin war here, i've decided to do it on a big scale 28mm, brought a ton of Boshin figures off Empress at the show and i have been collecting Samurai for 2 years now,and now i got my uniform guide book

The rules i will be using is the Victorian Steel wargame rules, these are perfect for this period.

heres a imteresting uniform i came across

What i can gather is the the uniforms were not all dark navy almost black, but also white summer uniforms or mixed which is great for i.d. on units, i've decided 24 miniatures to each regiment

Nice movie uniforms on youtube about the Bohin war.Another thing i am soon to create is the Boshin war flags.

The Victorian Outpost

Its a new gaming place in Grimsby with new terrain and new scenery, lots of respect for all wargamers and is the best place to game in town.

Anybody who wishes to visit the venue to arrange a game then  just pm me and lets roll those dice.

oohhh flags, That would be nice, It would be interesting to know if the white and red uniforms were used in the Boshin war and how common. I still have to finish off my B.I.F units, the Bac Ninh miniatures are very nice and am looking forward to when he releases more.

It needs flags to add that bit of interest and feel for the period

Suppose to be the Satsuma Domain army flag, most of new government Forces between Boshin Civil War used red and white color army flags to distinguish from black and white Shogunate Forces army flags.

Not set at high quality DPI but i can correct that, only thing with Japanese flags is the cutting out the white bits, tricky i would say.

I would of thought doing the flag in 3 parts as it would be so much easy to connect it to the flag pole and alot neater

The new miniatures scheduled for getting sculpted back in July have been notably delayed. Paul Hicks had an accident in July and it affected his sculpting hand badly. His sculpting output should be back to his regular volume soon but I don't have a date for the new figures yet.

Reply to the red unform, Gakuheitai (Shogunate), a unit with supposedly English-style training using Snider-Enfield guns and red-and-black uniforms

The French Chasseur d'Afrique would be perfect for the Japanese lancers, Old glory do some and i also found these, abit of converting and cutting can be done to fit them with lance and you have a regiment
