Jungle skirmish. Picture Heavy.

In addition to the Little Wars game I played this weekend (See Other adventures) On Sunday we ran a WWII Jungle action. The scenario involved a raid by a small force of Australian infantry and Ghurkas against a Japanese supply camp and Radio mast. The Allied objective being to take out the radio mast. Figures used are Airfix 1/32 plastics.

The battlefield, the Japanese base is at the far end of the table, the radio mast to the right.







Japanese sentries and outposts.







The Ghurka officer leads a Bren team past a ruined temple.





On the right flank, a Ghurka section advances on Japanese outposts.



On the left flank, the Ghurkas prepare to engage the Japanese sentries.







The Australian troops advance along the Jungle track in the centre.



The Aussies break cover and charge towards the Japanese positions.



On the right an NCO leads two men towards their objective.



The Aussies take the centre, fortunately for them the Chi Ha tank was not operational.









With a loud roar the demolition charge detonates, and the surviving Ghurkas and Aussies make their escape after inflicting heavy casualties on the enemy.

Really a fine looking game.

They almost look like 1/35 soldier models...whatever they are the table is brilliant.  Out of WW2 this is one of the two theatres I'd like to do most.  Love the job on the table and miniatures.  Sounds like a fun game.

Lovely stuff and very nostalgic. I had forgotten how nice those old Airfix 54mm were. Must see what I have left or maybe even buy some new ones.

The figures are all Airfix 1/32, just under 54mm. I acquired a large supply of them a few months back, but they are being re released in a harder plastic. They do paint up well, and they are really nice figures and a pleasure to paint. They also recently re released the Jungle outpost hence it's appearance on the table.

Along with its Desert Outpost Counterpart. Very tempted to buy one just for the sake of nostalgia. Interesting to hear that the re-releases are in harder plastic. I see they've also re-released the old SAS box. Maybe it's time for a 54mm storm the Iranian Embassy game.

Might I ask who makes the delicious radio mast?  That quite calls to me for several 28mm applications...

The radio mast, actually its an idea I stole from Plynkes on this very forum. Its from a Hornby set of three Electricity pylons designed for HO model railways. Worth scouring model railway stores for. I just left off certain pylony bits and added a stretched plastic sprue aerial.

I've been seeking such as this for some time now, in various heights & configurations.

ALL I can find seem to be various iterations, each worse than the last, of that bloody Parisian minaret...



Alas, Eiffel's iconic pylon, however disguised, just won't suit as a humble airship mooring mast...
