Constable Harper - Tingtong Province Police Force
« on: July 15, 2008, 09:12:01 PM »
Westwind figure painted using the new GW washes...

He actually looks better in real life... Weird as with most of my stuff it looks better in the pics!

I am blaming my new project firmly on the denizens of this forum... More to come...

Lots more... 8)

Very impressive work V. The highlighting and shading are wonderfully subtle.
I bought a set of these washes but haven't got around to trying them yet. Did you use a white or black undercoat? A 'how I did it' would be gratefully appreciated.

I don't think I've ever, ever had that particular problem.

Black undercoat.

I will happily do a step by step guide for the forum if people think it will be of use.

Yes please.  A breakdown of the steps would be great. I am keen to see how these washes work. Noce looking figure too :)

Another vote for a tutorial!

I'm also very interested in these new washes and how they shape up.

I tried my hand at the GW washes and was quite pleased with the results. It's no based yet, but should give you an idea of how I got on with them.

Very nice Pat, Can you be specific as to which washes you used?

And did you highlight before or after the wash etc?

No problem. The shirt is P3 Menolith white with a GW sepia wash and then highlighted back up with menolith and white. The trousers and kepi are P3 Hammerfell (?) khaki with a GW mud wash and a single highlight of the khaki + white. The flesh is just Foundry standard flesh a, b and c.
Eevn highlighting back up I find it much faster than the normal 3 or 4 colour layering technique and I find the finished effect much more subtle. I still have to do a bit of work on getting the washes the way I want them, but I have gone from thinking of them as might use them sometimes to a must have.
