You is wrong on the subject of the Polish Rogatywka, the four-cornered cap 1918-1921.
First of all, there is very little which is the "correct" uniform, when it comes to the uniforms of the period.

TS is correct. There is a lot of evidence for rogatywka that are "raised" like these figures. If my laptop hadn't crashed I could show photos from the Army museum in Warsaw.

A bit tough for those of us outside the US! (University of Maryland haven't digitalised yet.)

What's the Konarmia reference? Not Stephen Brown at the University of Wollongong (which is available electronically)?

Yes and yes. I did scan the former into my laptop (a tedious effort considering the length  - about 400 pages!) and it's out of commission at the moment getting repaired. I'm not sure if sending it via attachments or DVD is the best way to get it to you. I liked the book far better than Davies' book.

And my point of contact near the Army War College hasn't been helpful getting the other book you were interested in either. Sorry. I'm only a major and carry no weight there.

Thanks for trying on the translation of that Sikorski book. A shame, because it really is fabulous.

I have broadband, so attachments will work. I'm happy to stump up for a DVD and postage though.

Fair enough, and by having seen painted propaganda posters I was not entirely unfamiliar with the "tall" version of the cap. But as you see from the pictures you posted not all Rogatywka were tall - and as you made all the other versions of headwear maybe I could talk you guys into making the "deflated" version as well  :)

The lower M1919 Rogatywka is already done and has been shown - somewhere on this site.

As soon as we get our main computer back, I'll send it to you. If it's too bulky I'll go the DVD route. No need to repay - I think the family can afford the cost of shipping down under, esp if it gets online for everyone to read. You'll enjoy it. I still haven't given up on the Sikorski book yet!

I found something interesting looking through the collection at the War College. The translated sections of the book were a part of a Major's study (likely in prep to be a LTC or higher rank) during the 1930s. If the entire book hasn't been translated, the other chapters won't be available at all.

My poking around suggests that the book was translated by three separate men. Hence why part of it has been digitalised but not the others.

Update - the chapters translated, scanned and on line were part of a student project in the 1930s (as part of the War College, field grade officers were required to write historical papers - I assisted another officer in writing a paper on the Minie bullet and wounds in the ACW and the effects of strategic bombing in WWII.) No other scanned chapters are available.

I was able to make contact with the Military History Institute at the Carlisle barracks. I'm awaiting their return call. The website states the Institute doesn't like to lend rare, one of a kind or books published prior to 1960. Pages are copied fro outsiders at 50 cents per page. Pretty steep. I don't know if they allow people to scan the material themselves at the Institute (where they charge merely a quarter per page.)

I've been shot down twice already - once through the University of Washington and once through our military medical library. I don't mind being  persistent but I'm fighting an uphill battle.

Here's what I found:

Sikorski, Własysław.  "The Russo Polish War, 1920."  Typescript translation from the French at C&GSC, 1936.  ca 250 p.   DK4407W3S5413

250 x .50 = $125 for a copy - pretty steep for a single book
Even if deducting the 132 pages previously translated it's still a steep $59

Steep but not out of my budget. Some of the things I've bought have been eye-watering, and at least I know this one is good. I'll happily shell out the $60.
