Shall I go on?  :D

I REALLY like fictional locales; so much greater fudge factor with less likelihood to besmirch someone's actual heritage.

Do look for Red Orc's work on this on the regular VSF forum.

I may well have got more than I bargained for with such a general question. Its interesting to think about the small countries which could still have fascinating companies available for creation. does anyone know what was going on with the Swiss military at the time, beyond the Swiss Guard.
Thanks

Swiss guard is not switzerland! they are in vatican city.
virtually every Swiss canton has its own army and different uniforms, though a mix of second empire french and prussian styles are dominant! So, go for FPW miniatures.
Unfortunately if you google "Swiss army" you get the well known knife. Try to start something like "Sonderbund" and you get some ideas.

But I think switzerland offers some interesting aspects, since Companies can fight each other in some fictitious settings of a Civil war or Inter-Swiss war.

The same could also apply to the Italian Companies of the era, with one "Garibaldi" company in Red, with piedmontese allies in blues against naples or papal states. in blues and white uniforms. See mirliton miniatures for suitable figures.

Back in vatican / papal company: I amgine one with monks and nuns as heroes and medics plus Swiss guards and pontifical zouaves for the military types!

~~~ or maybe even Grand Fenwick.
Is is fair to pit the less martial nations of Europe, or indeed the World, against Gloriana XII's mighty right arm, Tully Bascombe?
Those who dismiss Grand Fenwick as merely Ruritanian make a grave tactical mistake.
Efforts to "modernise" that dear duchy's flag, while quite popular, have thus far been stoutly resisted.
I know that they are a Vatican force, its just that whenever you mention the Swiss in this context they come up.
Thanks for the replies
