Ninja-like assassins are always cool, especially in space!

These are a pair of Rogue Trader assassins. I love both models! More words and pics over at my blog.

They’re pretty cool figures and you have done a great job on them! I get seriously nostalgic about the older GW sci-fi (and fantasy, for that matter) figures, they seem to be more fun than recent stuff. More of a sense of humour, maybe. In any case, I look forward to seeing more of your painted work!

Thanks folks! I'm with you Pattus Magnus - there's a load of humour with the classic sculpts, even if some of them are a bit crude and clunky!

I feel the same way. As crisp and technically precise as a lot of modern miniatures are, so many don't have the character that these old models do. It's one of the reasons I've been into old Warzone models despite their sometimes even sillier levels of chunk.

I feel that if GW were to redo the officers/men of station in the last few pictures now, they'd be sharp and loaded with detail, but with completely neutral expressions. Meanwhile, the older (or at least older in spirit) models have stories to tell:

- The larger noble looks like he'd rather be at home with wine, women, food, and song.
- The tech to his right looks like he's having to deal with yet another inane request from the nobility, when he'd rather be working on his own projects.
- The navigator looks like he'd much rather be back on his ship rather than on this industrial planet, but sometimes his job requires dealing with narrow-minded surfacers.

Totally want to go play toy soldiers at Axiom's house. I'd be happy just setting up scenes and taking pictures  8)

Current projects: collecting way too many vintage Warzone models.

You said it in the blog post: the Goodwin sculpt is absolutely a “stone cold classic”.

They both look great, although I must admit, at first glance I thought you were continuing the simian theme, given the shape of the face cut-out on the female assassin’s cowl!

Wonderful stuff!

@NotifyGrout - I'm 100% with you - I love the old models because of their weird expressions, big hands and characterful details :)

@Raewald - the female assassin is an awkward-looking sculpt in many respects - but I still like them, monkey features and all ;)

Next up is a trio of hive gangers - a Rogue Trader hive worlder flanked by two Crooked Dice figures.

I think they work pretty nicely together!
