Does anyone wargame Vietnam using Australians? Either 15 or 25/28mm? Looking for interesting pictures of figures in action.

There's a sticky thread that lists 15mm moderns and the listings indicate a few companies that make Australians for Vietnam.  In fact Battlefront has some very nice figures that I'm currently painting up for our tabletop. Their sites should include photos. I know the Battlefront site does.

Force of arms make Vietnam Aussies, sculpted by Robi Baker (the sculptor for the original 'Baker company' range) available from the Wargames Command Post.

They have a couple of images on their site (the WCP one).

..if you are after 28mm then I recommend 'force of arms'...their Aussies are great and part of an excellent Vietnam series that also includes the m113 acav and Aussie versions.     However I'm unsure about availability...a year ago the company owner mentioned he was taking a year off for personal reasons and then I later read that Warlord had taken over the vehicle line....unless I'm mistaken nothing has so far 'appeared' from Warlord since.

"...oops sorry just re read thread and notice this info has been given, sorry

I'm afraid I only have 6mm Aussies and Vietcong. About a company of each.

John from Force of Arms was at Partizan and I was having a chat with him about his plans for expanding the Aussie range, so it's not dead yet.  ;)

That's excellent news, the figures really are lovely.

some good film accompanies the song which is about the Aussie experience in Vietnam

My favourite comedy number. The ballot for conscription took place for twenty year olds and err, Neil Armstrong actually set foot on the moon in July.

Carlos

There is irony in that verse that the injured man should not actually have been there.

The late Brigadier Alf Garland:
“ This is a quotation from the song 'I was only 19' by the Australian singing group "Red Gum" [sic]. It relates to a fire fight that had lasted for some hours when an explosion occurred. "Frankie", one of the soldiers had kicked (tripped) a landmine. In the song he did this on the same day that the US put a man on the moon for the first time. Frankie was supposed to be returning to Australia on completion of his tour of duty in June of that year"

Redgum's John Schumann, says he wrote the song based on experiences gathered from veterans — particularly Mick Storen (brother in-law) and Frankie Hunt"

What is it? 'Frankie kicked a mine the day that mankind kicked the moon. He was going home in June....'

By my math that's another 11 months. Poignant.

Sorry I can't stand John Schumann, he's a B grade turd. He was Meg Lees' chief of staff when she was lifting her skirts for John Howard. People I know who had to deal with him at the time described him as particularly unpleasant shithead.

Coming back to the topic, if you want Australians in Vietnam in 15mm, there seem to be two choices.  Battlefront, and Flashpoint Miniatures, which is an Australian company.  I have the Battlefront figs, and they are very nice sculpts.  I don't have any Flashpoint Aussies, but intend to get some as I have a lot of their other figures for 15mm Vietnam.

Nice sculpts they might be but those battlefront Australians don't look terribly accurate from the photos.

Now if you want really awful 28mm Australians look at the Baker Company versions. Inaccurate and plug ugly sculpts.

FoA, TAG  and Eureka are your extant options in 28mm although the Eureka versions are noticeably shorter than everything else out there. the TAG ones have a few problems of their own.  I've painted a couple of Eureka Australians up as Ghurkas to go with my Eureka 1960s Brits as they should look shorter.

Eureka ones are tiny, they really only fit in with their own VC to be Honest. I had plannned on using them for african wars with a bit of conversion but they were too small.

funnily enough the Odd Angry Shot was on TV  last night :) which prompted my response

Are there any 20mm (or 1/72) options? Either as figures or conversion candidates.
