Battletech, Robogear and Mechwarrior. 28mm Comparisons.
« on: July 28, 2014, 11:33:28 PM »
Just traded for a huge collection of Robogear, Battletech and Mechwarrior toys, potentially to feed my obsession for 28mm mech gaming. Inspried by some recent threads on similar topics, I've done up a blog post comparing the sizes of the various mechs and some others, along with some commentary regarding their suitability for gaming, quality and sourcing.

Good pics, and nice collection of toys.  I've had most of those.  Some scale well, others...not so much!

Thanks folks,
It is a bit of a bummer that they aren't all going to scale well together, but it's nice to have a chance to examine the ones that don't in person and lay the matter to rest, and the silver lining is that I've got a Mad Cat now!

On the plus side, you can find a pretty reasonable match for the officer's battle pod (Glaug) in 1/100 or 1/72 model kits I believe.  So you only lose a couple of them.

That's true. I've actually got that kit (the 1/100 I think) in a box waiting, :)
Along with a 1/200 scale "Monster" that will get a bit of modification, but should also be an excellent addition to my forces.

Yeah, even the Monster Mk2 at 1/200 will be quite small compared to the others you've got there.  It's big compared to its Bandai brethren but you can probably use it for something.

Yeah, it's smaller than the larger mechs I just bought, but it should scale up well with what I've currently got painted. Either as big-as or slightly smaller than my other destroid toys.

Not my pic. Mine will have the top cannons and maybe the arm cannons modified.

I think the body itself could look really cool with different arms, and even replacing the top cannons.  It's such a great looking mecha.  The more I look at it, I wonder if I should have kept the six that I had at one point...the body would make a great little space shuttle.  The arms and cannons can always be used on other stuff too.

It almost looks great for use as an industrial mech - replace arms with large lifters/claws...remove the cannons.  Place a deployable bulldozer blade.  Hmmm.  Interested to see what you use it as.

I think I'm going to cut off the  4 cannons and turn them into missile or sensor pods.  As for the arms, it depends on how easy it would be to cut them down to size or attach a different weapon altotether. My preference would just be to keep them but shorten them.
