Fantasy Warlord figures
« on: 13 August 2014, 07:59:05 AM »
Hi,

As I've been clearing my old stock boxes, I painted up these:

They are actually official Fantasy Warlord figures from 80's or early 90's, not quite sure. I think they were made by Alternative Armies, but I'm not quite sure on that count either -- I lost the original blisters long ago.

They are Carylls pikemen, I have a few "heroes" to go with them, plus a varied bunch of other figures from the line. I think I bought the remaining stock long ago when the local game store was dumping them.

Now that I got around to painting them, I actually quite like them.

Does anyone know if these are still available or is this range totally dead? I tried check Alternative Armies website, but it doesn't list these (or a huge variety of other stuff they used to sell either).

Looking good. I've never seen those models before. Some of AA's models for Fantasy Warlord could be a bit ropey but these look quite nice.

They are from Alternative Armies. Did you try contacting them, I thought they would cast some up if you contacted them and ordered.

You did a great job on them,

Thanks.

No, I didn't try contacting them yet. Just browsed around the website. I'll drop them a line to see if they still have the molds tucked away somewhere.

Let us know what they say if you do contact them.

I sent them an enquiry whether they still have the molds and if they're willing to cast more.

Let's see what happens.

Good looking group there.  Hopefully they can cast more for you and you can flesh out your ranks.   :)

Thanks for the info aiteal.

It's nice to know this stuff is still available, though the range never got to being very extensive. There's basically just one troop type per faction...

Personally I'm still in the shelf clearing stage and I haven't really thought what I'd actually use these for... I know I have Scarlet Empire troopers somewhere, plus a few heroes and wizards from the range.

Let's put another pic here:

That's Carylls heroes in the foreground plus odd singles from somewhere else (old Grenadier and RAFM maybe). AA City Guard is visible in the rear.

Still got the rules somewhere as well, some nice artwork from Mr Chalk and some fairly decent in game shots  :)

It's a shame they never made the pig riding eastern goblins  lol

cheers

Yes, I have the rulebook as well. I re-read it the other day and... well, let's just say that there's been some advances game design since then.

But I absolutely love Gary Chalk's artwork! Lone Wolf books were among my first forays into gaming and their iconic illustrations are just fabulous.

Now, Magnamund wargame. That would be something...

Just been looking at the Uruk orcs, they are some really nice sculpts, does anyone know who did them?

I'm pretty sure most of the range was sculpted by Bob Olley.

Just got an email from AA: The figures are still available for special order. Just drop them an email if you're interested.

Details are still pretty much as reported above.

The Old Minis look SPLENDID...GREAT brushwork! I don't  have much experience with Alternate Armies minis other than the few Fanatasy & SciFi minis my Hobby Shop haunt used to carry a long time ago, but they do look WONDERFUL.
