It's quite therapeutic, once you get used to the occasional static shocks; they're not painful or dangerous but do make you jump a bit.
I bought the Mk1 (dish) version and use it with an aluminium sheet to get a larger surface area. I've also modified a flour sifting cup to charge the metal sieve so I can load it with the static grass and sprinkle it onto the larger terrain areas directly - that's how I did the long grass under the trees on the farm tile.
You need to make sure your hands are glue free when you do it or you end up with flocked skin.
You can also use it for flocking your nails if you've a mind too; here's a picture of Malamute's that he insisted I did before one of his recent big nights out (I've lost the picture of his toenails)
