Happy to help.
I'm not totally sure, but...
I think that the explanation might be that NIC is all stuff (as of 2012 when the last update occurred) that are not in the Casketworks catalog, which IIRC represents everything that Reaper distributes to stores.  There have always been alot of things available online that aren.'t in casketworks and likely aren't regularly available items for retail distribution.

That explains why Miniatures Marketplace doesn't have certain items from Reaper in their catalogue (not even "Out of Stock" entries...) doesn't it!

Probably so.

There's a shop in the burbs "Games Plus" that seems to stock the entire reaper line DHL, Bones, Chronoscope, boxed sets, etc, but there are things like CAV that they don't have in stock. Though that could be because no one knows what CAV is anymore...

Still, it's a pretty impressive looking Aisle and a half, since IIRC, they have one sku per hanger!

That is great in principle but might mean you hang onto a line that really is not competitive.

Well, it could the "long tail". What is scrapping the range going to net them?

There are two competing ideologies about this in the entertainment industry. There are those who think a healthy back catalog will generate nice basic income with very little effort.

And then there are those who think the back catalog should be kept under lock and key to drive the interest into the new stuff. Their "latest greatest" ideology is appallingly insidious, for example my son thinks no movie older than 2 years is worth watching...

But I digress.

The miniatures industry is especially well positioned to enjoy the long tail, and I specifically mean the traditional METAL casting industry.

Why? Because all you really need is a catalog and the molds to sell cast-to-order stuff. You don't need retail packaging for direct to consumer sales. You don't need to stockpile stuff that doesn't sell, and if you somehow get stuck with it anyway, you can simply throw it back into the melting pot -- literally.

P.S. Painted my first BONES last weekend. How on earth are you supposed to get the mold lines off that stuff? Please don't tell me a very sharp scalpel is the only way...

Not to hijack the thread (as I do so)  ::) but Reaper has a set of "Hobby" articles, one of which addresses that I think, but the short answer - Yes, that seems the best way.  Changing the media (metal to bones) changes how you work the figure of course.   o_o  Having recently, in an incident with a metal figure being re-based,  impaled a thumb with a 'dull' blade that "slipped" when the white glue broke free, I think you should work with fresh sharp blades.  The mold lines issue is the one aspect I really have been struggling with skill-wise.

Glenn

Didn't find anything related to BONES at the address -- all the articles are pretty old. Ah anyways, reminds me of my one and only foray into the world of painting soft plastic figures: trying to remove the mold lines resulted mostly in lopped-off scabbards and very crudely resculpted lines. Yeah, they were cheap. That's the only positive thing I can say about them.

Oh well, enough with this off-topicness. I'll post pics in a new thread  in a couple of days.

You know, a few of those CAV vehicles look pretty good to me, I've been hoping they would get Bonified some time soon.

I suspect you are not the only, "If you see one, there are 10 you don't see."

While that comes from a different  milieu it is true for most things in life.  And it is meant in a positive way...

I believe they also had some aircraft with rather oversized guns that I was considering getting for my Kaiju games.

Yeah, I can see that.

Good alternate utility thinking.
