Rumble on the Kivu mountains - a Congo 2005 set FoF game
« on: 11 October 2014, 11:01:37 AM »
Lads,

Done this a long time.

All start with a simple idea inspired by a WI #276 small article and game picture, getting the things in motion, I jump to the internet and contact one of my partners in crime – Filipe Martins – and start researching around a similar theme, and in less than an hour, he did find it.

After that was easy to get a game scenario write down, after all I have most of the kit, and it was to be a low intensity game.

The rules used were, as is obvious for me, AmbushAlley excellent Force on Force (indeed in one of our last play-test versions, before being published by Osprey).
Players were: Pargana and JDiogo as Congolese Regular players (RDC), Artur as the PMC player, and Filipe Martins as the FDLR…., I GM the game.
Most figures were Liberation Miniatures – with a couple of Britannia figures throwing in just for the panache.

The only area with problems were the scenics, as I discover that I have, them, few Africa suitable buildings, beyond the tribal ones, so my next efforts will be to fill in that gap …

Now the story and the game……..
Sunrise on early July 2005, eastern Congo, on the slopes of the Kivu mountains – also known by their Mountain Gorillas – a small and peaceful African village.

Only the noises of birds and of the jungle break the local silence

The local Gendarmerie building (Fieldworks, now OOP)….

The old mission (Stronghold) also the HQ for an International Medical Assistance Group….

I also need to get some natives, to populate the table……

For some time, the FDLR gangs have been sighted on the area, selling Mountain Gorilla’s corpses, and threatening the locals, and a European network send some teams just to grab more news….

All was quiet, as before the storm…

Soon, the rattle of metal, shouting orders, and noises of soldiers start to invade the small hamlet…

The RDC Army start their support action during Iron Fist Operation, trying to flush out FDLR elements from the southern approaches of the Kivu Hills, and securing the area, for humanitarian convoys to reach the populations.

To make the story more interesting, one of the refugees on the Mission, was the heir of a Texan billionaire, that tired of waiting for the regular channels, just put a commission on a PMC agency………

Soon the takatakata of automatic guns fill the local… the chaos was everywhere

The FDLR player has some strong groups on the hamlet at start, but his main strength was based on regular reinforcements, sadly they come late, disorganized and without leadership….

Soon, the game was full of short and intense gunfire….

So, under some heavy fire, the Regulars and the PMC – not without casualties – manage to push down the Rebels positions.

While that, the News Team keep going on their work….

One of the FDLR resistance points, until the last round….

The PMC technical made them short notice….

And the regulars keep pressing the Rebels forces…

While the regulars were winning the first rounds, the main commander feels they need some more heavy support….

Preparing themselves for blasting any opposition…

While deploying, the gun truck was detected by a rebel group on the muslin shop…. RPG rounds fly towards it

But all rounds were duds – so it escaped with no problems…

And the 23mm guns converted the shop in some sort of swiss cheese ….

The rebels, lacking more reinforcements, keep trying to discover the whereabouts of the heir…
But still time for some interviews under fire….

The regulars pressing on, manage to clear another line of houses…

Finally cornered against the old Mission walls, the Rebels try to rally – always with the news crew nearby – but it will be their last position, as soon, several teams of Congolese forces will catch them, and the FDLR just disappear on the jungle…

Thanks for looking, comments welcome, as always

Great-looking terrain and miniatures! May I ask who makes the mat and please don't say it's the OOP GW mat  :?

Cheers

Sorry, but it's the GW mat, but I believe is not OOP, as they re-release it.

If you're using Google Chrome, you can right click on the picture and select "open image in a new tab" - you'll be redirected to Photobucket and the image will show; rinse and repeat!  ;)

BTW: Faustnik - GREAT scenery, minis and AAR! CONGRATULATIONS! :-*
