Q Division, RCMP - updated! Report from OPERATION: DEMO2
« on: November 23, 2014, 03:39:07 AM »
They always get their man, even if he's half-fish.

The RCMP set up Q Division early in their history to battle the strange, the unknowable and the decidedly unhealthy for humankind to encounter.  They've progressed a long way from those early Victorian roots, but their mandate is the same, to fight eldritch evil in both official languages. (Strictly speaking they should fight once in English and then fight the same battle again in French, but it doesn't always work out that way).

Not that I have anything against Threshold, but when I started down the SA rabbit hole, I was reminded of one of my first Colonial wargames which consisted of original NWMP troops against zombies on a Saskatchewan farm.  This was where Q Division was born.  I wanted to continue in that vein and SA seemed like the perfect venue.  I've updated the troop and I'm working out which scenarios I'd need to run in order to play out a version of that original Mountie game.

In the meantime, let me introduce the team:

First up is Inspector James Yongestreet, the character and leader.

His right hand man, Sergeant Ed Monton.

And their civilian occult specialist, Doctor Woodbine Greenwood.

The Mounties are both lovely Harwood Miniatures figures, and Doctor Greenwood is a RAFM Call of Cthulhu archaeologist.

More adventures from Q Division to come!

Thanks Mason!  I must admit that it was reading through the MOOS(E) archives that reminded me of Q Division and they were very inspirational.  I love being in the cult...membership has its privileges... lol

Along those lines, I have an update.  The first action of the Division...Operation: DEMO2 (see if you can figure out why it's called that).  The original annotated police report can be downloaded in PDF form, or you can read the story as reproduced below...

Operation Number: 141128-9.1
Operation Title: Operation DEMO2

Officers Involved:  Inspector James Yongestreet, Sgt. Ed Monton, Dr. Woodbine Greenwood

Report of Events

Information had been received by Q Division through regular channels that cult activity had been on the increase, and that there was likely to be an incident undertaken on the night of November 28/29 in the vicinity of Old MacDonald’s farm. In the event of the report being true a team under Inspector Yongestreet was dispatched to investigate and deal with the situation.

A cult group had gathered, consisting of three members with various armaments and a fourth inhuman member who was undoubtedly there for nefarious reasons.  The Q Division team approached the ruins of the old farm on foot as recent storms had made the road impassable, with blown down trees and muddy roadways.  Insp. Yongestreet spread the team out in a broad pattern as a means to encircle the group for capture.

Advancing, Yongestreet and Greenwood positioned themselves at a wall, while Sgt. Monton provided cover on the left flank.  The cultists advanced boldly, the scale-covered half fish, half man perhaps most aggressively of all.  Monton engaged the creature at a distance with his 9mm pistol, hitting the beast and wounding it, but not bringing it down.

Yongestreet took fire from a cultist who was hiding in the ruins, but was not hit.  He returned fire and was able to eliminate the threat, who turned out to be the leader of the cultists.

Seeing his leader taken out, a cultist who had advanced to the wall near Sgt. Monton became enraged.  Leaping over the wall the red-robed assailant engaged Sgt. Monton in single combat.  Though he put up a good fight, Sgt. Monton was injured and fell to the ground, a victim of the cultist’s sharp knife.

Not satisfied with the Sergeant, the frenzied cultist charged Dr. Greenwood and engaged him in single combat.  The Doctor met knife with knife and stood the cultist off.  Six hits!  Six!  And he didn't wound with any of them!

The fish-monster meanwhile charged Insp. Yongestreet.  Though horrified by the creature’s appearance, the Inspector stood his ground and fought against the thing’s claws.  The creature dove for the officer, but it mistimed its dive and Yongestreet took full advantage.  With a mighty blow, Yongestreet sent the thing back to whatever unhallowed place it came from. This is what happens when critical hit meets critical miss

In the battle with the knife armed cultist, Doctor Greenwood was finally able to extricate himself to a safe distance.  Before the cultist could resume his attacks, Yongestreet fired over the wall and knocked the man out.  At the same time he was taking fire from the last cultist on the other side of the ruins.  Yongestreet ordered the Doctor to take the cultist while returning fire across the ruins.  Greenwood then continued forward to the end of the wall, looking to encircle the final, strong willed cultist.

The sense of impending doom must have spoiled the cultist’s concentration because he didn’t keep to proper cover.  Yongestreet and Greenwood both fired, hitting the cultist and ending the battle.

In examining the area, and searching the prisoners, an interesting  discovery was made.  One of the cultists had in their possession a fragment of some form of map. It’s not known what this is a map for, but it will certainly bear further investigation.

Sgt. Monton was able to make a full recovery from his wounds suffered, however he has now developed a marked aversion to blood.  Indeed, on the event of someone in the office getting a paper cut, the sergeant fell into an almost catatonic state.  Hopefully this can be corrected through therapy or medication. Hemaphobia seems an unhelpful trait in a first responder...

Cool
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it anymore and what is it seems weird and scary.
