I really like those Nile Crocodiles, though... I've wanted some partially submerged ones for a while - thanks for the link!

Exactly - now, submerged hippos, anyone?

why not use a plastic hippo and cut the part of the body that is submerged?
very cheap. :)

Sure thing, if I can find one in the right size. If that's possible, I'll soon swamp my African rivers with cheap plastic - I could make versins for deep water with only top of the head showing, som walkin on more shallow water (back showing) and some standing near the bank (just cutting off lower part of the legs).

But size really does matter!
Ask at the LAF, and answer shall thy be given!

If you're just wanting the top of the head for some, why not make a press mould of one, then you can have as many as you like for next to nothing?

What material do you use for press moulds? Clay?  I do have an old Prince August casting set (somewhere). Sounds like a neat solution.... I buy one Hippo and then cast my own submerged ones  lol

Guess that would work for crocs as well...

I think you can do it out of green stuff. The way it was explained to me was, you cover the thing to be moulded in a thin layer of vaseline, then press the GS around it. Then you can slip the original out when it dries. Then coat the inside in another thin layer of vaseline, and press more GS into it.

I guess you could use FIMO or something too, I can't see it making much difference.

Somebody on here will know more about it, I've not tried it myself yet. Just thought it would be cheaper and you wouldn't end up with a stack of hippos back ends with no heads on.

That would just be weird.  :?
