SO...a few years ago the display case where Cap'n John stored the various Fantasy Folk I painted for him over a number of years had a house of cards moment. That is the top shelf had one edge drop down to the shelf below with its load of minis sliding to the lower shelf. Not to be outdone, the second shelf tipped down to the third shelf depositing two shelves of minis there. This proceeded until the case ran out of shelves. WELL...I got the shelves straightened out, deposited the wandering minis in a random way on the offending shelves, AND vowed I would get the pieces sorted out, touched up, repaired where needed, & hit all those glossy (gloss finish was my thing way back when) minis with a nice matte coat.

Came this New Year's Eve AND I finally fulfilled my vow...the fulfilling part took two days, six cans of Testor's DullCote, & one can of Krylon Matte. I figure that this MONUMENTAL task should be recorded for posterity along with subjecting you, My Dear Forumites, to a horde of horrid photos. ERGO:

The Cap'n's Case:

AND the Perfidious Shelves:

AND a somewhat better look from the bottom to the top...shelves that is:

with two blurry ones:

That ends The Saga..."Look upon my Works, Oh Ye Mighty, AND despair!"

Wow, that is one great collection. Glad to hear you got it all sorted out after that awful accident. And I'm even more glad that you got rid of that awful glossy finish!

That's too much beauty for one post to contain!

A pleasant, nostalgic, reminder of a simpler and sillier time.

Epic.

Thanks, Prof.! I'm delighted you like the Lads/Lasses/Whatever.

Wow, that is one great collection. Glad to hear you got it all sorted out after that awful accident. And I'm even more glad that you got rid of that awful glossy finish!

Thanks, qazbnm! Getting The Cap'n's collection squared away was really quite a satisfy accomplishment. I can now walk by the case & not get guilt tripped.

Wonderful stuff. I didn't know that you are one of the headless horsemen too ;)

Thanks, von Lucky. I did try to avoid showing up in the photos. Being headless is okay...I rarely use it for anything anyway.

Thanks for the kind reply, Fram...glad you like the stuff. It was like a trip down Memory Lane; lots of cool minis I'd forgotten about. Funny thing is that no manner what time span I'm occupying it always seems silly.

Absolutely wonderful, Al.

Thanks, Paul. There really are some vintage thingies in there. It was a privilege having the opportunity to paint some of those pieces. It's nice to see them straightened out & on display.

FAN-TASTIC DN!!!

I see lots of pretty toys to use with Epic Heroes!  :D

I also know your pain my friend. I stood up from a chair in my room back in 1991 promptly smacking my head into my miniatures shelf, dislodging one side and watching in painful horror as my whole painted collection shot 6 feet to the ground. Broke my two Dragons in half and utterly demoralized me from painting for a few months.

Glad you've healed the wound!  :D

Master Nala, Is that you to be seen in the mirror?

The hordes you collected and painted SPLENDIDLY are simply stunning to see.

Great!

Fantastic collection of superbly painted minis  :-* - glad you got them sorted.

So, erm, when do we get a run down of what they all are and who makes them?  lol

Thanks, Khmorg. I'm glad you like the stuff!

Oh man, what a task.  Bless you!

Thanks, Michael! It was one of those tasks that was much more difficult before I started; i.e., what was going to take forever wrapped up in two days..tow long, horrible days.

The problem with the case is Cap'n John decided to move it from the front of the house to the back without removing the minis. A few weeks later that little mistake prompted the slow collapse...stupidity strikes again.

Thanks, Faust. It would be nice to see the Little Guys & Dolls in action; I'll have to look the rules over more carefully.

The unfolding disaster witnessed from across the room replayed whenever I looked at the case. Finally getting it back in order seems to have dispelled the images...imminent senility might be also be responsible.

Wow.

Stunning.

Hope I can get near that standard at some point.

Thanks, Tactalvanic. You'll get there quicker than you think. To be truthful, I wasn't any great shakes as a painter for the first few years. Even now there is a lot of room for improvement. There are a lot of Folk who are better than moi with less time at it; I draw inspiration from them...&, of course, I hate them.

Master Nala, Is that you to be seen in the mirror?

Thanks, GS. If the image you see in the mirror is a devilishly handsome Guy with a rakish grin, that's not me.
The minis are things I painted for Cap'n Jon from about '96 until '04. There are a LOT more thingies I did floating around in other Folks collections plus a few I've kept for myself.

Fantastic collection of superbly painted minis  :-* - glad you got them sorted.

So, erm, when do we get a run down of what they all are and who makes them?  lol

Thanks, Odo! it was quite a relief putting the last of the restored pieces back in the case.
I was thinking of taking additional photos in smaller groups. Since you showed that there would be some interest in that, I'll try to do a photo session soon.
